Beware,
This review is from: Classic Jazz Funk 3 (Audio CD)
beware....this isn't the Mastercuts album as shown but the MVP series with different artwork so if you were wishing to try and complete your Mastercuts Classic Jazz Funk Series (vols1-7) you won't be able to do it here. I know because I made that mistake.....Musically it is the same track listing so therefore it really merits 5 stars but you have to dock a few points for the incorrect listing!

This is THE album that piqued my interest in Jazz. After listening to it for the last 5 years, it still piques that passion. The MVP series, unfortunately discontinued, provides this standout volume with grooves that reach in deep. The first four songs set a markedly serious, philosophical tone and alone would mark any album collection worthy. The final 8 tracks, though decidedly more upbeat, retain the same deep-grooved feeling of the first 4 tracks. Highlights: 'You Know You Know' is a classic among classics. 'The Creator Has a Master Plan' is reminiscent of John Coltrane's 'Acknowledgement (From a Love Supreme)'. 'Journey in Satchidananda' evokes an Indian sense of the spiritual while 'Nautilus' eases us from the philosophical to the easier sounds to follow. A great album. |
