tight funk,
This review is from: Classic Masters (Audio CD)
any collection that can start with a banger like Movin then you know are gonna be bumping for a long time to this set. can you see the light and other grooves on here highlight the funk and the horn drenched jams that made the Brass Constuction one of the tightest Bands of the mid to late 70's. the vocals and arrangements are slamming on this collection. strong Production.

the jawnt!,
This review is from: Classic Masters (Audio CD)
Actually, I reviewed another album by BRASS, but to be honest *THE* jawnt isn't on it...THE MESSAGE... if you know what a "jawnt" is... you'll immediately recognize the message as one. "Jawnts" (as in, "Dat tune as the jawnt!") are tunes that have vibes, bring back memories and make you want to get down... and no doubt THE MESSAGE falls into that category... There are plenty of other great '70s Disco/Funk classics on the album... but in my book you can't beat THE MESSAGE... with the exception of the much sampled WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND (definitely another "jawnt"...) As for the sound... If you like INSTANT FUNK, mid/late '70s OHIO PLAYERS and horn driven funk on a bit of a BLACKBYRDS type tip (Jazzy funk circa that era) - - with the addition of slick party funk arranging - - a tight rhythm section with a particularly bumping bass player... and an album where the band jams out and grooves, but never looses sight of the goal: keepin' the party going, I'll say this - - BRASS CONSTRUCTION was the jawnt - - and you'll feel like its the Summer of '77 all over again... note: In case you need some perspective: BRASS CONSTRUCTION was SKYY's sister band... produced by Randy Muller, was also did work with CAMERON and arranged the B.T. Express's legendary funk anthem "Express"... My only criticism of the group is that despite the fact that they were a substantively funky organization, a lot of their albums were engineered in a way that seemed a bit too slick and poppish... fortunately, this album gets past that vibe. If you like this album, here is an off beat recommendation: Japan import - - SUNNY SIDE OF ORIGINAL LOVE (artist: Original Love.)

What makes a Band great ? What one word will describe how good a band is even though there have been years passed and their music has been forgotten? Brass Construction ! ( okay that`s two words !!) You cannot forget the Big sound of the Horns in every song bringing you back to a time long past ,but never forgotten. Even the Memphis Horns do not compare with these Funky horns! They blast off from the start and keep your feet stepping to there unmistakable beat, and the Bass races right along to ground you in Funk and fill your head with it~s hand clapping, somebody get me some more of that Funky Music,fo I fall out from a lack of it Sound!!
