5.0 out of 5 stars The Original was great and this is the original!, June 16, 2004
This review is from: Classic NES Series: Excitebike (Video Game)
Excitebike is one hell of a good game and now it is revived on the Gameboy Advance. Those who loved the original and want it here unchanged can have that.

Excitebike once again has a nice and easy to get used to way of playing. You press the B and A buttons to accelerate. The B buonn pushes you along faster but you also have a bar at the bottom of your screen. Once it fills up you have to let your bike sit for a while until it cools down. Not to mention that you also race against three other drivers going over bumps and whatnot. The real task at hand isn't to beat the other three players but to beat the time.

Excitebike was the first racing game to have a track editor. Unfortunately on the NES you couldn't save that track. But on the GBA you actually can save it. My gripe is you can only save one track which bites.

There are a couple of other problems. If you have an E-Reader you can get Excitebike there. The other is simply that the GBA has had to have some of the graphics squashed down to fit the screen. This shouldn't pose any real problems though.

Excitebike is a grand game and one of the true classics in the Classie NES Series. Along with "Super Mario Bros." and of course "The Legend of Zelda" this is what you should get.

5.0 out of 5 stars the origional Dirt Bike Game is Back, November 1, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Classic NES Series: Excitebike (Video Game)
Back before Jeremy McGrath or other Motor Cross games hit the scene there was Excitebike. You simply raced down the track avoiding the grass when possible and hitting Ramps to avoid obsticles. The simple concept made for an easy NES game back in the day that had one inovation that was way ahead of it's time but is a novelty today. That feature was the ability to create your own race track, yes that's right create your own race track entirly from scratch. So from start to finish and even set the lap #. This feature helped secure it's status in greatness (although the gameplay was good as well). Overall this is a classic that is a throwback to yesteryear. Highly recomended.

Out of all the titles, this was the first Classic NES title that I HAD to buy. I mean, I plan on buying "The Legend of Zelda" and "Super Mario Bros." but this is a must-have for anyone who owned the original NES.

The graphics are EXACTLY like the original, and if you're playing this on the GBA SP Classic NES, it really is a blast from the past.

Graphics: 10. Okay, that's misleading. The graphics suck in comparison to other GBA titles. Heck, they suck compared to the original Game Boy titles. But if you've ever played the original, you'll love the way this game looks. Oh, and on the GBA SP's crisp screen, the game never looked better.

Gameplay: 10. Exactly the same as the original, which is wonderful! You can choose between racing alone or against other Excitebikers. Plus, like the original, you can create your own track. It also adds the ability to save any track you've created and best time, so when you turn it off, you won't lose it!

Sound: 10. Again, like the original. Sure, digitized revving and bleeps for music may not appeal to young gamers today, but if you're like me, listening to it will bring back fond memories of spending your afternoons afterschool vegging in front of your TV while your Mom gets on your case about doing your howework first.

Okay, I'm a bit biased here. I LOVED "Excitebike" as a kid. I never owned it (my neighbor did), but always wanted it. Now it's all mine!!

If you ever grew up playing this game, you've got to buy it! Buy this and the Classic GBA SP and it'll feel like you're back in the 80's!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Classic NES Series: Excitebike (Video Game)
Excite Bike is for anyone who enjoys vidio games alone. I like this game because it's a classic that has come back for more people to enjoy. I even bought it at the store in Animal Crossing for Game Cube! If you are looking for an exciting game this is the one.
