NES Classic Perfectly Ported to GAEMBOY ADV,
By
This review is from: Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros (Video Game)
If you want to buy one of the RETRO Classic NES carts Nintendo is offering this is definitely #1 on the list for sheer ease of play and memories. SUPER MARIO BROS is a perfect port of the NES game (minus one glitch at the end of the 3rd world that gave you infinite lives). Several have bemoaned you can not save your progress, and that's true ... but in the original game this was not an option. Learn the game well enough and you can WARP your way through the beginning levels anyway! You play as Mario or Luigi jumping your way through many worlds (levels) to get to save Princess Toadstool and her courtiers. Set in a land where evil mushrooms, turtles, fish and birds attack from all directions (okay 90% of them are on the right!). The graphics and controls are the same ... no embellishments or "lost zones" or challenge modes ... just straight up classic MARIO and LUIGI in their first adventure back in the NES days. It's a very nice port, and I like the ability to take it with me on the road in my SP. It also brings back memories when I hook it up to the TV and get to see it normal size! I've kind of gone off about paying $20 for Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, and Excite Bike (why not a compilation of those on ONE cart - especially when you can get the e-reader versions for $5). But this one is well worth it because you have many levels to play, and the ability to play 2 player! This is still a fun game, and I can't believe how instantly likeable it still is even after playing all the latest! Cute, simple, and fun! Any age can enjoy it! Highly reccommended - not just for nostalgia freaks. Though they will get a kick out of the perfect replica packaging - from the instructions, the cart, and the box -- it all looks old school! Trademark classic 80s game that helped build an empire around Italian plumbers attacking mushrooms! Wow!

Mario : From The Beginning,

This review is from: Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros (Video Game)
When I look at older video games, they always seem to grab me when I least expect, time after time. It really is nothing new, but something to really grasp on. That comes with the case of the original Nintendo games, and the original taste of the Mario Brothers. It has been a great feeling, time and time again. The duo of Mario & Luigi, has been known as one of the most successful video games of all time. The original Super Mario Brothers made it into full stream 20 years ago in the arcades, and then it made it fully on the first supersystem, the Nintendo Entertainment System. Arguably, the games still ring out bells very well, as well as welcoming newcomers to the plumber light again, and again from the warp pipe.Super Mario Brothers, the 1985 video game returns to the Game Boy Advance. Only the second time this game returns to the system, the previous one was just for the earlier Game Boy Color system. The games graphics are really old school, and a little bland, compared to the later Mario Brothers games, but this cartridge was designed for it, as a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the NES. The other downside is that many people may not want this one, because they might be hooked on the recent Super Mario 3. The game features the same 8 different worlds from the original Super Mario Brothers, without any hidden bonuses or surprises. As you play, you will encounter the same enemies, Bowser, goombas, and koopa troopas and a whole lot more than meets the eye. Still, I thought it would've been a better move to reissue it with the same graphics feel from the Super Mario All-Stars from 1993, but not what Nintendo created years earlier. All in all, the game still remains addictive as earlier eras in the video game world, and that is nothing to sneeze at. I honestly suggest this game, only if you haven't played the original one from the NES system, or the Super Mario Bros. Deluxe from the Game Boy Color. The game still proved that it launched a whole new way to play video games, and that so many games have been influenced on these plumbers' pipes, Mario and Luigi.

The Bros. First Adventure is Back!,
This review is from: Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros (Video Game)
Way back in 1985, Super Mario Bros. was a revolutionary game that defined the ever-popular 2D sidescrolling adventure. Age certainly hasn't slowed Super Mario Brothers down one bit. In fact, since this is part of the classic NES it means its a direct port of the original Mario game. This means it was before Saving was thought of.The graphics may not hold up a candle to what the GBA is capable of but that's because this is the "classic" NES series. This isn't meant to showcase what the GBA can do. This is meant for nostalgia and it is perfectly captured on the GBA this way. As I said, it's a direct port straight from the NES to your GBA. But it does have one downside. For one, it seems that because of the GBA's screen some things had to be squashed just to be in proportion. This is very noticeable when you rescue the many toads in the castles. This shouldn't stop you from picking up the game but that's exactly where the other problem lies. Like other classics in the Classic NES series, Super Mario Bros. has already been released several times! If you have a copy of Super Mario Brothers Deluxe that'll do just fine. I'd easily say this is worth it to put down 20 bucks if you want the original classic. But if you have Super Mario Brothers Deluxe or an E-Reader you may want to grab Zelda instead.

What other games out there do you have completely memorized? Any games that you took to heart, loved, played over and over, wished they never ended? And now, look at it. They sell old oversized carts at Game Crazy for a quarter. My childhood is worth a quarter. But now, it's worth $20! That's gotta be an improvement. What I love about this release is this: It is exactly the same game on the NES. No "Mario Advance" treatment, no bells and whistles. This is your childhood's Mario, the way you remember it. Before there was anything, there was this. How dare you scorn our roots? You call yourselves gamers yet you look away from where we came. This game, this simple, fun, addicting, sometimes challenging game - this is the grandaddy of platformers. I am going to bet there is no one single game that even a complete non-game-player can look at and say "Hey, I know that game." Everyone knows Mario. Think about that for a moment. The cart itself is great. Using the same-colored plastic as the original NES carts was a nice touch. I still enjoy this game, this game I've had since before I remember. And I am glad Nintendo gave it to us, since my NES stopped working recently. Thank you, Nintendo, for letting me remember my childhood, and knowing that it isn't worth twenty-five cents. Now if only you could find a way to port Duck Hunt...

Playing this game on the game boy advance brings back memeries of the first time Super Mario Bros. was released in 1985 for the nintendo entertainment system. This remake of the original game has all the original sounds and music from the cool classic game. It would be nice if the other classic Super Mario Bros.(Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3 from nes)were released for game boy advance so that we all can relive the cool experience of thoes original nintendo games too.

THE essential NES game to own,
By
This review is from: Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros (Video Game)
This game is what started it all for me back in the 80's. I have played and beat the game so many times but it never gets old. I doubt there are those out there that havent played it yet, but if there are the game has one objective. Mario must travel through 8 different worlds of side-scrolling action to save the princess, and along the way use mushrooms to grow and jump on your enemies and shoot fireballs also. The game seems so simple by today's standards, yet it is still fairly difficult to beat. I am glad Nintendo is releasing this game in all of its original glory and I applaud them for that. $19.99 seems like an alright price for this game to me, since it has such tremendous replay value. Most of you will find yourselves hooked for a long time even after you beat the game. I wont mind paying for this game on release day, and I definately will be getting it. Anybody with a gameboy advance should buy this without hesitation, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Classic Mario,
By Mode7 (NA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros (Video Game)
The formula for the best Mario games started right here at number one. Yes he was featured in Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. before this game came out, but SUPER Mario Bros. invented platform games. To this day the game remains as playable as the first time you opened the box of your NES (back when they packed in games, I miss it). The graphics are great for the time period they were developed for. Remember a true reviewer considers the age of a game and doesn't compare to games that have the benefit of todays technology. Back in 1985 this game was top billing at arcades and at home, the fun factor and replay value was the top priority back then. Unfortunately that philosophy has practically died, and your lucky to even want to play a game after you beat it the first time now days. This game echoes a time when games were fun, replayable, and didn't require a large investment of time to beat. As you get older you find you like these games better and better because life is so busy. SMB is a fine example of Nintendo's trademark quality and the roots of gaming for most of us in our twenties +.

The quintessential classic,
This review is from: Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros (Video Game)
Second only to The Legend of Zelda as the "greatest Nintendo game ever" this game is a perfect rendition of the original NES classic, in the palm of your hand. Great for on the bus, showing off to people, and inciting spontanteous goomba-stomping matches with all your buddies that remember the game from long ago. Seriously, unless you still have your old NES out and it still works, this game is a great add to your gameboy library. Sure, the graphics and sound effects are from 1985, but that's part of the point. If you've never beaten this classic, here's your chance. You can take it anywhere, play 2 players with a pal, link to another gameboy advance for 2P, and other couple of tidbits they don't tell you in the manual: After linking to another unit, you can choose to end the game and the entire game will stay loaded in the memory of the "client" GBA until you turn it off. Also, it works with the GBA wireless adapters if you've got them. Finally, it looks fantastic on the GBA's screen, especially on the "classic" GBA (not the SP) provided you can get the lighting conditions right.

This review is from: Classic NES Series: Super Mario Bros (Video Game)
(...) writing this from my vacation spot on lopez island. I thought I'd check out the first mario vs bowser game, and I found that IT WAS THE BEST MARIO GAME I EVER PLAYED!!!!!!!!!!! I can see why this game lifted mario to the top of the video game tower of success. this game has goombas on almost every level(goombas are the funnest to kill in my opinion), the famous doo dee doo doo da da tune, and in every castle you fight bowser. the graphics aren't great, but it makes no difference because of the awesome gameplay. In fact, once I started playing, I couldn't stop. rent this game first if you're not sure, I guarrentee you'll be hooked.

This is by far the coolest Mario Bros ever! I grew up playing this game and it's the first video game I've ever played. Many people from a younger generation (ex. born in the 90s) wont enjoy it as much as old school gamers who weren't raised by N64 and Game Cube. Okay so I may be wrong when I say this game is "flawless" because the GBA version is a rough copy of the orignal NES version. So on this game you cant save and the graphics aren't as impressive as they once were. But on the other side you don't have to blow into it to get it working and you can play it anywhere when ever you want to insted of setting up your old dusty NES. The other good thing is my NES Mario Bros doesn't work to well so now I don't have to rely on my NES to play my fav. classics. I would like to say thanks to the people of "Classic NES Series" for restoring such priceless games and I would like to think Nintendo for inventing the classics in the first place! So for those of you who were raised by the NES get this game it's worth every penny you got!
