Product Description

This Kindle book includes: The Grand Canon of the Colorado (article), The Mountains of California, Steep Trails, Stickeen (article), The Story of My Boyhood and Youth, Travels in Alaska, and Yosemite. According to Wikipedia: "John Muir (April 21, 1838 – December 24, 1914) was a Scottish-born American naturalist, author, and early advocate of conservation of U.S. wilderness. His letters, essays, and books telling of his adventures in nature, and wildlife, especially in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, have been read by millions and are still popular today. His direct activism helped to save the Yosemite Valley, Sequoia National Park and other wilderness areas. The Sierra Club, which he founded, is now one of the most important conservation organizations in the United States. His writings and philosophy strongly influenced the formation of the modern environmental movement."

This review is from: Classic Nature Books: 5 Books and 2 Articles by John Muir, in a single file, improved 8/15/2010 (Kindle Edition)
John Muir is the most inspiring writer on nature that I've
ever found. He puts you in the scene and makes you see it, smell it,
feel it and desire it.
Despite having written more than 100 years ago, his message is
even more vital today.
His natural brilliance (he was an inventor), he memorized the
entire new testament, and keen observer of nature, people and life.
If I could have dinner with anyone in history, it just might be
John Muir. His books have absolutely captivated me.
And read Stickeen for the best Dog story ever written.

In trying to describe the great pines and sequoias of the Sierra, I have often thought that if one of those trees could be set by itself in some city park, its grandeur might there be impressively realized; while in its home forests, where all magnitudes are great, the weary, satiated traveler sees none of them truly. "e;
