Bought this book to share with my grandson.
Mary Anne
She's now 2 1/2, and this book has been read to her hundreds of times (at her incessant requests) to the point that it is now covered top to bottom in scotch tape!

This is the most complete nursery rhyme book that I have come across!

This is the most complete nursery rhyme book that I have come across! It has wonderful pictures in it that will keep your child's interest. Some of the illustrations of the nursery rhyme cover several pages. There is one nursery rhyme devoted to each page as well, and the illustrations cover the entire page. I bought one for my child (20months)and another for my niece (22 months). They both love their books (it is my daughter's favorite and insists on "Moon book" at bedtime). I will definitely buy other issues as gifts when the situation arises.

The wonderful illustrations help bring the words to life. Children enjoyed developing pre-reading skills with these delightful favorites. Teachers and parents can encourage children to talk about what they see and hear. I recommend this book.

I bought this book for my daughter 2 years ago. She's now 2 1/2, and this book has been read to her hundreds of times (at her incessant requests) to the point that it is now covered top to bottom in scotch tape! I'm currently online to order a second copy for my 6 month old son (and no doubt to the delight of my daughter!). I can't recommend it enough!

I'm surprised to have read a complaint about the illustrations - I (and my wife, and my daughter, and everybody else who has seen the book at our house) think they are wonderful: bright, detailed, and above all, contextual (something I've wondered about with other nursery rhyme books). I think one should take that comment with a pinch of salt; there's nothing in the least bit inappropriate with the illustrations (the cover is itself an excerpt of the style in question).

My only wish would be that they could print this book on laminated paper so as to avoid all the wear and tear that it receives as our children's favorite! I for one would be happy to pay extra to preserve this book for their children one day!

We keep out numerous children's books for our toddler, and many of those are nursery rhymes books. Our 16-month-old daughter chooses this one time and time again. Before this one came into our house, her favorites were Lucy Cousin's nursery rhymes book and The Neighborhood Mother Goose, which she still does enjoy. When we got this book several months ago, this quickly became her first choice. (even over such classic nursery favorites as Tomie de Paola's, Sylvia Long's, Rosemary Wells' and Richard Scarry's, which she also likes but just not as much). This book is perfect for toddlers because the pictures so accurately depict the words. The cover is a great example of this style as you can actually point out a cat, fiddle, cow jumping over moon, laughing dog, and dish running away with a spoon. The other rhymes are similarly literally depicted. Many rhymes, such as The Three Little Kittens, Old Mother Hubbard, and Ladybug, Ladybug, have many pages illustrating the action of the narrative. It is so fantastic for a young child who needs these pictures to show the words. It's a language development gold mine! Also, the pictures are rich in color and thick and glossy. Regarding the negative review above, it is bizarre that anyone could describe these pictures as "sexualized." I cannot fathom how these illustrations could possibly be considered even remotely sexual. The pictures do depict people, which is a nice change from so many where all the actors of the rhymes are animals, but there's definitely nothing "sexualized" about them. If you're looking for a captivating deluxe book of nursery rhymes for a toddler to absolutely adore, look no further because this book is sure to please.

I just ordered my third copy of this book! In addition to the first one I purchased, I had to replace the one my two year-old grand-daughter has worn out and also buy one for her mother to keep! This is a wonderfully illustrated collection of nursery rhymes that has totally engaged my grand-daughter, so much so that she has memorized most of the rhymes and is cued by the illustrations to repeat them word-for-word. The book contains the most comprehensive collection of nursery rhymes I have seen, does not change the traditional wording of those rhymes, and full-color illustrations cover all pages. Those illustrations are big and bold, not pencil-like and, in my opinion, a bit frightening. My grand-daughter has gained many new words from her love of this book. It is also a grandma joy to hear a two year-old reciting "Hickory Dickory Dock" and so many others from memory. This book will become a keepsake in our family!

I bought this book for my unborn daughter wanting her to start life with the same nursery rhymes that I did. I bought it based on the reviews that I had already read about it, and I was not disappointed! The pictures are full colour, interesting to look at, and there are more rhymes in there than I thought possible. I love it, and am looking forward to sharing it with my baby girl in the years to come!
