For fans of The Roots and Typical Cats...,

This review is from: Classic (Audio CD)
Jazz-infused hip hop, a bit like The Roots, Typical Cats, and maybe more recently like Blue Scholars. Worth the import price, but do some digging around underground hip hop music blogs and you can probably get this for free (save your money for your local hip hop group!).
And go head and feel free to ignore the 1st review that says, "To me if Will Smith & Chris Botti made a cd this is what it would sound like." Um... Okay, yeah we all loved "Summertime," BUT I don't think Will Smith is an emcee quite on same level as Othello & The Hipknotics. And Chris Botti... well, we'll just call him the Will Smith of jazz, so take that as you will. So in conclusion, get this album however you can!

This the 1st cd from Othello & the Hipknotics - it is great! hip hop with a great jazzy background. Othello has a smooth mellow style - no hard jarring jabs. I really like the intro welcoming you to the record. The music is as important as the message Othello is sharing. To me if Will Smith & Chris Botti made a cd this is what it would sound like. Worth the import price.
FYI: this cd is #3 in Japan right now

ala black star,
By Silas "prose" (the dizzert,AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic (Audio CD)
This album reminds me of blackstar the first album by mosdef and talib kwali however this brother is more talented because he didn't curse in his verse listen before you judge this is a christian artist trying to touch your soul and he'll succeed at it if you just lose yourself in the music and as far as the will smith thing goes, no its not christian science but hes def-inately dropping some science like craig g of juice crew fame! puns intended no not Big Pun!
