There are better Step 2 books out there!, January 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
This was by far the worst step 2 book ever published! I agree with what the others were saying, it IS a waste of paper and ink, and most of all a waste of TIME and MONEY. The "classic presentations" are lame and generic. They don't give you any special points to help you remember certain diseases, etc.. which was what I thought I was buying when I purchased this book. The format is so bare, it's like an outline, but after reading it, nothing stayed in my head. I wished I had run across these other reviews before plunking down the $30.00. I would suggest the other books that Amazon recommends, first aid for the boards, prescription for the boards are far better.

A poor excuse for a Step II review book!, August 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
This book is an example of poor work. Medical students need to know this before they purchase this book because we are often unaware of the quality of the review book. It seems to me that the authors just wrote down whatever popped into their minds about a certain topic. It didn't matter if they were missing extremely vital imformation, or if the information was completely outdates. It seems to me that J&S just needed a Step II review book and the quality wasn't important. Most of the information in this book is much too basic, and much too outdated. Don't waste your time with this book, unless you really are missing the basics.

I would really give it 1/2 star, February 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
This book really is as horrible as everyone says it is. The outline format really is just a skeleton outline. You truly have to know your basics well before using this book, and quite honestly, if you know your basics, don't bother buying this one. You will end up being frustrated and disappointed. Save your thirty bucks!

Unbelievably Bad, February 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
I laughed at all the five star reviews and then wondered how much each of those people were paid to say such things! I am even more suprised that this book made it to get published. Please do not even think about buying this, you will be sorely disappointed. My only regret is not having run across this page earlier--they don't tell you this while you're in the med school bookstore, they just want to sell something to you. Oh well, chalk it up to experience. I hope I was able to help some people out there avoid making this disastrous purchase.

SAVE YOUR MONEY, January 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
Quite easily the worst Step 2 book out there. Outline form was skimpy at best and lacking in key information for treatment modalities, etc... You're better off studying your old notes from med school.

Buy this book..., February 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
I can't believe these misguided, poor reviews. I used this book and one other to study for step 2. I scored a 238. I found classic presentations pertinent, comprehensive, and just right for a few quick days of study. I truly wish I'd had this book before starting my clinical years. Students hungry for useless detail would certainly be disappointed by the brevity of this text, but one must remember the intent of the authors, that is, to provide a precis of the "classic" or textbook presentations for all subspecialties - things the USMLE loves for step 2. And no, I didn't know any of the authors in med school, even though I am from California.

Just a money maker, January 4, 2000
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
Hey, did you all notice that the "5 star" reviews were from people in California who more or less said the same thing? Yeah, I thought that it was no coincidence that the authors of this book were also from California. I took a live review course when I bought this book simply as a supplement to my studying. I have to say that the bullet format and amount of information made for very loosely associated material. It's like going into someone's scatterbrained head. I say save your money, or if you want, you could buy my book for half the price. I hardly even used mine. A better book to buy would be "Prescription for the Boards" which you may purchase thru amazon also.

Excellent!, March 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
This book provides an excellent, quick overview for review before the boards.... Let's face it, almost all of Step II is about classic presentations of disease, and that is EXACTLY what this book focuses on!

I Scored 228, July 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Presentations and Rapid Review for USMLE, Step 2 (Paperback)
I used this book to study for Step 3 of the USMLE. I did not use any other study source and began studying only 4 days before the exam. The book was thorough but very easy to get through, providing me with very valuable knowledge. The proof is in my results: I scored a 228. If you want an easy way to get solid results, I suggest you get your hands on this book.
