4.0 out of 5 stars "Classic" indeed!, November 23, 2000

This review is from: Classic Queen [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Excluding the videos that feature random footage edited together, this is a good compilation of Queen's music videos. The stand out has to be "I'm Going Slightly Mad". Shot in black & white and featuring the band in all manner of psychosis, they seemed to have loads of fun. Sadly, Freddie was dealing with full blown AIDS at the time but the premise of the video allowed him to don a wig, heavy make-up and loose fitting clothing."These Are the Days of Our Lives" was Freddie's last video shoot and though he looked sickly, his face radiated with a glow and joy that is rarely seen on the most healthy of people. The very last shot was just of him saying "I still love you.." and he exits the frame.David Bowie has become well known for his elaborate music videos and combining him with the originators, Queen, the video for "Under Pressure" would have been fantastic. However, both artists were touring at the time and could not get together for the shoot. We are instead relegated to seeing another "clip" video."The Miracle" took a new road in performance videos as Queen were nowhere to be found. In their places were teenage look-a-likes and they pulled it off well (especially the "young Freddie"!)"Bohemian Rhapsody" has, naturally, clips from the now famous "head banging" scene from "Wayne's World". This was the movie that introduced me to Queen. Thank you Mike Myers!A wonderful collection to say the least.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music, great video., December 28, 1999

Classic Queen is one of the best greatest hits compilations of all time, and I did not know that a video existed until I came across the video and its supplement, Greatest Hits. Both videos are great, but this is the better one because the music is better, and also because Freddie was looking his best throughout most of it (moustache, etc). This video contains great songs like "A Kind of Magic," "The Show Must Go On," "These Are the Days of Our Lives" (Freddie's last video), all of them are great. One of the great videos in here is the one for "The Miracle," in which four young Queen lookalikes perform Queen stage show to the track, PERFECTLY. Freddie's "double" probably worked at his movements for months, he impersonates him perfectly. Anyway, if you can get your hands on this video, buy it and don't hesitate (especially if you own and like the album), you will not regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Queen is a good video for new and established fans, December 7, 2000

The performances in this video rate from dull to humorious to outstanding. The neat thing about this video is watching a metamorphosis of a band that spanned two decades. The video is at it best when Freddie Mercury does what he did best. Perform! I found the video enjoyable and the music great. This video ranks as one of the better Queen videos available in North America.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Queen kicks!, March 22, 2000

I thought this had to be one of the greatest music videos I've ever seen.Freddie is incredible on screen and on recordings. One of the things I noticed (and thought was pretty cool) was the fact that "Classic Queen"(VHS)Songs are in the same exact order as the songs on the album. My personal favorite video is "The Miracle" video which has 4 young Queen lookalikes and they did a great job(especially the Freddie lookalike). If you like Queen, this video is a must. If you don't get this video you're not a true Queen fan. Well, enough said if you think it sounds cool get it(and I sure as hell recommend it!). CLASSIC QUEEN KICKS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to Queen, this tape changed my life., July 14, 2002
This review is from: Classic Queen [VHS] (VHS Tape)
After hearing Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio some time ago, I stormed into my parents cd collection and pulled out Classic Queen to listen to that marvelous Freddie Mercury hit. Soon I began to listen to the other tracks on the album and instantly fell in love with the band's unique sound. Right then I knew I had to see this band in action. When I popped in the tape right from its fabulous plastic wrapped box I sat for 80 minutes straight in awe. This provoked me to start a band, even though I only played the didgerido. Soon enough I had joined a real band, bought a cheap Johnson bass, and practiced incessantly. Now I sit back and jam with my band on my Fender fretless sunburst jazz bass pondering where I would be without that splendid video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where's the DVD, December 4, 2001

This is QUEEN at their BEST. Every pulse pounding beat draws you closer to the TV, once is not enough, you have to see it again and again and again.

The big question is "WHERE IS THE DVD VERSION"? Surely the people that sell these know this is the best collection of music and videos of any group.

Bring on the DVD.

In fact, everyone thinking about buying this VHS version, DON'T, wait for the DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Flix, November 2, 2001

This review is from: Classic Queen [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Basicly a video featuring many of Queens best promotional videos, all of which are definate Classics.
Queen have been labled the Pioneers of the pop/rock promotional video with their release of the brilliant Bohemian Rhapsody in the 70's and they have excelled in not only being wonderful as musicians but have proved to also be a very visually consious band, as proved in their stunning live shows around the world! Their videos are not all focused on just Freddie but the other band members get a chance to shine in classics like Another one bites the dust, Roger Taylor - the drummer - is definatley the most camera friendly ('Cos he's absolutley Gorgeous!!!) and for his performances only the video is worth buying ;) Brian, John, Freddie and Roger - Queen, they're all fantastic!!!

It had the best songs. Better that Greatest Hits, Classics is a classic. It is a must have for die-hard Queen fans, or even people just merely checking out Queen, or people who have a small growing interest in Queen.
