More of the same,
This review is from: Classic Roadside Americana (Hardcover)
Crestline (part of transport publishers MBI) have combined two books in one for this 'Classic roadside Americana'. The two are Witzel's 'Drive-in restaurant' published in 2002 and Tim Steil's 'Route 66' from 2000. Michael Witzel has been turning out roadside Americana books for years, essentially reforming similar words and images to suit any title. Steil's pages on the Mother Road also tread the same format as many others about Route 66.
The fact that you can pick up this title very cheaply is enough of an indication to me that the contents are the usual photos and text, which, of course, they are. There is nothing new here and much better books cover the two subjects. John Margolies: Roadside America is a huge photo book and Nick Freeth edited, I think, the best 66 book Traveling Route 66: 2,250 Miles of Motoring History from Chicago to L.A. ***SEE SOME INSIDE PAGES by clicking 'customer images' under the cover. |
