Worth $9,
By Ray "Ray" (Rio de Janeiro, BRA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Classic Rock Covers (TASCHEN Icons Series) (Paperback)
This book does not picture the classic well-known rock covers, it shows the pop, the everyday average vinyl disc cover of XX century. Just to see... candy for the eyes. That's what makes this book interesting.
As a Graphic Designer I'm not particularly interested in rock covers but I think the last review was pretty unfair. Anyways this is definitively not the definitive book on rock covers.

This review is from: Classic Rock Covers (TASCHEN Icons Series) (Paperback)
plain and simple this book SUCKS . it's a total waste of paper.i got it as a gift from a friend who knew i was both a record collector and designer and from both points of view all i can say is : YAWN. the covers are chosen totally randombly by "theme" rather than by graphic interest or collectability/importance of the record. the resut? lots of mediocre records with mediocre cover art that fit into tacky, unimaginative spreads( oh naked lady covers! oh covers with cartoons! oh covers with bad 80's makeup!) the intro shows the author with his record collection but REALLY taschen should have paried him up with a rock-art expert. there is no reason at all anyone would enjoy this book. |
