1.0 out of 5 stars THIS SUCKS!!
You're led to believe that these are the full-length hits when you play them, but DONT BE FOOLED!! They are chopped up shortened versions of the original hits!! FAME by David Bowie has about 2 min taken out, and the great guitar riff at the end of the Lynard Skynard "Freebird" tune is chopped off at the end . .A RIP OFF!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Scattershot To Be Truly Representative, May 8, 2001
By calling this a "Classic Rock Party" one must interpret "rock" rather loosely. This collection includes pop ("Joy to the World"), folk-rock ("Sister Golden Hair"), and even a novelty song (the yodelling "Hocus Pocus") in addition to classic 70's rock--all of these songs were released between 1970 and 1978.

Rhino's other releases in their Millenium series usually focused on a specific genre. When you're doing a hip-hop, funk or doo wop collection, you can do an adequate job even though you may be covering a decade of music. When your category is as broad as classic rock (whatever that means), your song selection doesn't hold together very well.

These were all popular songs and all of them reached the Top 40, except "Aqualung," which was never released as a single. And why wasn't "Eighteen" or "School's Out" used in place of Alice Cooper's "No More Mr. Nice Guy"? As for some of the other song selections, Rhino appears to have simply decided to save some money on licensing fees by recycling songs from its Top Rock Hits series.

Overall, this is a very listenable collection with terrific sound and informative liner notes. But unless you specifically looking for some of these songs, why not simply tune in to your local classic rock radio station?

4.0 out of 5 stars Would have been 5+ if..., August 23, 2001
Listening through I thought that this has got to be the best classic rock compilation that I have ever heard. Just about every tune belongs except "Joy To the World", which seems a little out of place. Why only 4 stars? Because they shortened my favorite song, FREEBIRD. If you listen, you'll notice that they took out a good chunk out of the guitar solos at the end. They should have kept the length and cut out JOY TO THE WORLD. If so, it would have been 5+++++++.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive Classic Rock Compilation, March 31, 2000

Millennium Classic Rock Party is without a doubt one of the best music compilations money can buy. It showcases a great variety of rock music - from the lighter work of Boston and America, to the heavy, like "Hocus Pocus" by Focus - and each one of the songs is excellent. This is great music for a party, for driving in your car, or just for sitting down and listening to. And with 20 tracks, it'll outlast most CDs. This one won't get old anytime soon.

a nice selection of popular rock songs. They are not the full length version, but it's not a bad CD for the price.

I enjoyed the CD. Was dissapointed that the Hocus Pocus song Focus was an edited version and not the full song. Other that that it was great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, March 24, 2010
Many of the songs are good except 25 or 6 to 4, Fame, and Hocus Pocus. Smoke on the Water is a good song but I prefer Highway Star and I like Piece of Mind better than More Than a Feeling. I am also sick of Freeeeeee Birrrd. It if was a great collection it would have included songs from Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, Rush, The Who, and Aerosmith. Anyway it is overall good collection bur it's the crapy songs that kind of ruin it.

5.0 out of 5 stars 20 of the greatest rock n' roll songs of all time!!!, August 28, 1999
By A Customer
This CD has some of the greatest songs ever! My favorites are American Woman by The Guess Who, Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple, and Fame by David Bowie. I like ALL the songs, these are just my absolute favorites. The booklet that comes with this CD has photos of a lot of these bands, such as The Doobie Brothers, Peter Frampton, America, Lynyryd Skynyryd, and the Allman Brothers Band! There is also information on the songs, and the bands. Oh, that reminds me. These bands on this CD are some of the greatest! Bands like Boston, Chicago, Lynyryd Skynyryd, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, The Doobie Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, The Guess Who, David Bowie, and Queen!!! Any Rock n' Roll fan should have this CD. In fact, EVERYONE should have this CD. It's the best CD I have. This is one of the CD's where you can listen to every song instead of skipping one or two, because you hate 'em. Who can't like every song on this CD?
