Not all rock & roll, February 10, 2007

CLASSIC ROCK & ROLL: INSTRUMENTAL HITS, Vol. 1 is a peculiarly mixed album. At the top, a honky tonk piano tune gets sandwiched in-between two soul numbers. Rock & roll is then jumbled together with surf tunes. The set closes with two pop recordings. It's an eclectic program, one not for the R&R purist.
The highlight here has to be "Woo-Hoo," a new version of which is featured in cellular telephone TV ads. Sound quality is top shelf for all tracks.
