This review is from: Classic Rock: Vol.1 (Audio CD)
Classic Rock: Vol.1 is a budget priced CD chock full of great rock tunes that will always stand the test of time! This rock music is so well done it's truly timeless; and it brings back many good memories for me whenever I hear these songs.

The track set kicks off with Joe Walsh doing his "Rocky Mountain Way;" "Rocky Mountain Way" has awesome guitar, drums, percussion and more! Joe Walsh sings this really well and I predict that you're going to love "Rocky Mountain Way" if you haven't heard this one before.

Lynyrd Skynyrd packs a huge punch with their huge rock hit entitled "What's Your Name." "What's Your Name" has great modulations between minor and major keys; and Lynyrd Skynyrd sings this strong with lots of great energy. The tune is catchy and the slight country accent on this tune really makes it rock all the harder! "What's Your Name" was always one of my favorite rock tunes.

Listen also for The Mamas & The Papas on "California Dreamin'." "California Dreamin'" came out at a time when a lot of young people were disillusioned with the harsh realities of the world; when young people heard this tune it was truly a calling to them to move west to California in search of a better quality of life and inner peace. "California Dreamin'" has great harmonizing, an awesome flute arrangement and the guitars work very well for this number, too.

Toto's "Hold The Line" comes from a later period but this rocks just as well as "California Dreamin'" ever did. Toto does this with style and they sing and play "Hold The Line" to perfection! It's not exactly a tune that you can dance to; but "Hold The Line" will make you want to listen to it over and over again. It's very well done.

Steppenwolf's "The Pusher" rocks slow but really well in some awesome minor keys; and there's also the softer rock number called "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" by Steely Dan. Steely Dan handles the key and tempo changes on "Rikki Don't Lose That Number" like the pro that he always was; and the piano arrangement impresses me a great deal. Great!

The CD ends strong with "Walk Away" by The James Gang. This tune was new to me; and I was very excited to hear it! This tune is true rock at its best and The James Gang does this one up right. Awesome sounds, too!

Overall, Classic Rock: Vol. 1 gives us nine great rock hits that are truly indispensable to any collector and lover of solid rock music. I highly recommend this CD for rock fans everywhere.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wow..9 whole songs?, November 22, 2009
This review is from: Classic Rock: Vol.1 (Audio CD)
Chock full of songs? Since when do nine songs equate to a compilation CD that is 'chock' full of anything? Oh, and when did Quarterflash become a classic rock band? Did I miss that memo? Blahhhhh!!!!
