2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing "Classic" about these "Songs", October 12, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Songs (Audio CD)
Originally recorded in the '80's for Curb records, this incomplete (by 5 songs!) re-release of mediocre material is saved by the decent "Strengthen My Love," which was only heard in the States on a "Partridge Family" and "My Three Sons" reunion special. The sweet "Half Heaven, Half Heartache" is reminiscent of the P.F. sound but everything else is a disapointment. "I Think I Love You" was not a part of the original album, which did eventually see the light of day in Japan a few years back under the misleading title, "Best of David Cassidy."

4.0 out of 5 stars QUALITY OVER QUANTITY, July 3, 2002
This review is from: Classic Songs (Audio CD)
Recently I ordered quite some CD's of David Cassidy...
At first I didn't order the CD Classic Songs, because of some of the reviews. This CD is rated from five stars to one. Somebody talks about 'the shorty', because the CD only lasts about 30 minutes. I however think that's not important. Ofcourse the longer it lasts, the better, but quality is more important than quantity.
Another reviewer says he totaly dislikes Half Heaven, Half Heartache, because he has the reference to Gene Pitney. I don't know the interpretation of Gene, so this is no reference to me.
I just like the way David sings this song, that keeps repeating itself in my mind.
All the songs on these CD are just great!. I personaly think the only song which is not in place is the Partridge Family song I Think I Love You, because is out of style. This, although I am a real Partridge Family fan!
I think this CD is a great buy. Very nice orchestrations, great vocal harmonies and ofcourse the great Cassidy voice.
What else do you want as a David Cassidy fan? Four stars from me. This would have been five if the Partridge Family song would have been replaced by another great song as the ones you can find on this CD. My recommondation to other fans of David is: Buy it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music scores for an album with obscure music!, September 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Songs (Audio CD)
David was going to release an album in 1979, but was never released and these songs are great! He felt like these songs didn't represent his music, probably because most of these tracks are cover songs. The track I thought that represented his music is "Half Heaven, Half Heartache", which he has great vocal harmonies in! Another one is "Once a Fool", of which he tries to attempt at doing disco. "Crazy Love" and "Dirty Work"(written by one of the Gibb brothers from the Bee Gees) are fairly good too. The songs that are wimpy though are "Hurt So Bad"(that was released as a single, but failed to reach the charts), "Stengthen My Love", and "I Can See Everything."
