4.0 out of 5 stars QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
Recently I ordered quite some CD's of David Cassidy...
At first I didn't order the CD Classic Songs, because of some of the reviews. This CD is rated from five stars to one. Somebody talks about 'the shorty', because the CD only lasts about 30 minutes. I however think that's not important. Ofcourse the longer it lasts, the better, but quality is more important than...

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing "Classic" about these "Songs"

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing "Classic" about these "Songs", October 12, 1998

Originally recorded in the '80's for Curb records, this incomplete (by 5 songs!) re-release of mediocre material is saved by the decent "Strengthen My Love," which was only heard in the States on a "Partridge Family" and "My Three Sons" reunion special. The sweet "Half Heaven, Half Heartache" is reminiscent of the P.F. sound but everything else is a disapointment. "I Think I Love You" was not a part of the original album, which did eventually see the light of day in Japan a few years back under the misleading title, "Best of David Cassidy."

Another reviewer says he totaly dislikes Half Heaven, Half Heartache, because he has the reference to Gene Pitney. I don't know the interpretation of Gene, so this is no reference to me.
I just like the way David sings this song, that keeps repeating itself in my mind.
All the songs on these CD are just great!. I personaly think the only song which is not in place is the Partridge Family song I Think I Love You, because is out of style. This, although I am a real Partridge Family fan!
I think this CD is a great buy. Very nice orchestrations, great vocal harmonies and ofcourse the great Cassidy voice.
What else do you want as a David Cassidy fan? Four stars from me. This would have been five if the Partridge Family song would have been replaced by another great song as the ones you can find on this CD. My recommondation to other fans of David is: Buy it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music scores for an album with obscure music!, September 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Songs (Audio CD)
David was going to release an album in 1979, but was never released and these songs are great! He felt like these songs didn't represent his music, probably because most of these tracks are cover songs. The track I thought that represented his music is "Half Heaven, Half Heartache", which he has great vocal harmonies in! Another one is "Once a Fool", of which he tries to attempt at doing disco. "Crazy Love" and "Dirty Work"(written by one of the Gibb brothers from the Bee Gees) are fairly good too. The songs that are wimpy though are "Hurt So Bad"(that was released as a single, but failed to reach the charts), "Stengthen My Love", and "I Can See Everything."

3.0 out of 5 stars Title is misleading - Unreleased cuts that had been shelved, January 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Songs (Audio CD)
This 30 min. shorty has absolutely nothing to do with the Partridge Family, other than the title cut and tune. These are early David Cassidy expansion tunes that also bare little resemblance to "Cherish" and "Rock Me Baby". Still, a few nice cuts. Seems from day one, David was constantly testing the waters and altering his style - musical selection and message. A little disco sounding (reminiscent of the Karen Carpenter solo effort which was also shelved until recently) - definitely more throaty, somber sounding for the most part. A Must for true Da-iddy fans. Favorite Cut: "Dirty Work" (Gibb Bros. tune). Neat that his early roots and song choices were always in tact; Timothy B. Schmidt - Rusty Young - Bobby Hart etc. More on other CD's later.

1.0 out of 5 stars Missing the `Cherish' - David of the seventies., September 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Songs (Audio CD)
When you want to reexperience your David-feelings of the seventies, don't buy this cd. I was expecting songs from Cherish and Rock your baby. My old fashion records sound better then this new fashion cd. It's a pity, that's what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars If U like Dave, don't miss this one!, December 2, 2000

I don't really understand why Dave would be against these songs. They show a maturing part of his sound that grows on to become what is "Didn't you use to be...", and "Old Dog, New Trick". Bottom line is, if you are a David Cassidy fan, you will very much appreciate this CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally Disappointed, June 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Songs (Audio CD)
This is a total ripoff CD - whoever produced it took old reject tracks from a late-80's album David made in England and tried to pass if off as something worthwhile. It's TERRIBLE! He was experimenting with his voice at that time and although the British album had SOME good songs, those on this thing were definite rejects! Don't bother with it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Really Classic Songs By Cassidy, March 15, 2005
This review is from: Classic Songs (Audio CD)
Although this CD is titled Classic Songs, they are not really classic to David Cassidy. Rumor has it, these songs were recorded by David for a never released LP but then scrapped but these tunes found the light of day on this collection. The only classic here is the up-teenth rendition of "I Think I Love You" and the rest are nice tunes but nothing of any great calibur or substance unless to a diehard fan. "Dirty Work" and "Hurt So Bad" are remakes that are the standout tunes but for the avid David collector these are priceless gems for the meager under $10 price tag. There are much better Cassidy collections out there but this is worth adding for the price.
