I bought this cookbook two years ago after returning from a month's stay in Spain with a host family. Elisabeth Luard's recipes are as good as I remember my host mom's home cooking being. Every recipe I have made has turned out delicious, especially the recipe for pickling your own olives and the red pepper & wine chicken. One caution though - these recipes take time to prepare, and sometimes use ingredients that are hard to find (or at least for me). However, if you are willing to put in the effort, the results will be worth it! As an added bonus, there is artwork sprinkled throughout the book, painted by Elisabeth Luard herself, that is beautiful. I will be using this cookbook for as long as I can still cook.

I agree with the previous reviews that describe this book as 'small', however it is quite chunky and is quite a classy little book. The hardcover is thick, the pages are quite heavy and there are two beautiful ribbon page markers. Whilst there are no photographs of the finished dishes at all, the author describes quite thoroughly how things should be done, and how they should look...it is quite conversational, and you feel as though you have someone standing beside you in the kitchen. The recipes, for the most part, seem to contain ingredients that are readily available and the couple I have tried have been really quite nice. The best part is that, at the moment, the book is listed as being at a [Bargain Price] and it is truly worth every cent they are asking. It would also make a nice gift.

I received this book and the others (French & Italian) as a gift and really love them. (Would definitely recommend them together as a gift!!)They are adorable as a set and have really great recipes inside that I enjoy very much. The books are cozy and comforting and look great as a set next to each other on my bookshelf. Would highly recommend them!

Good read and some good recipes. It's just that physically, the book is tiny...Six or seven inches tall. Maybe it should be called "The Pocket Guide to Classic Spanish Cooking."
