I have not read this book yet, but I will comment on the Classic Starts series as a whole. I am on my seventh Classic Starts book as a bedtime read aloud to my eight year old and I purchased this one to try with my five year old daughter. This abridged series has captured my son's attention beyond my wildest dreams. It is so exciting to read Swiss Family Robinson, Robin Hood, or Robinson Crusoe and have him beg for "one more chapter, pleeeease!" The series does a great job of simplifying the stories just enough for easier comprehension, without over-simplifying and "dumbing down". Thanks to Classic Starts my son has a passion for the classics and has now asked for the unabridged versions to see if he has missed anything!

I've been trying to find a series of good books for my daughter would be interested to read, we started with "The Secret Garden" and this is the second one she read. She couldn't put it down. It is well written for my 2nd grader and I highly recommed it.

I felt this was a great shortened version. My daughter loved it. We have read most of the classic start books. We also recommend Anne of Green Gables (shortened version) Caddie Woodlawn and Charlotte Doyle. Happy Reading!

A child of about 8 or 10 will enjoy reading this abbreviated version of this wounderful classic. I wish the illustrations were more colorful.

I've been ordering/purchasing classics for my now almost-3-year-old granddaughter since she was 6 months old. Her parents read to her often, giving herthe same love for reading and respect for books that my son had when he as very young and continues to enjoy. You cannot begin too soon reading to your children. Amazon continues to provide great products in the least time.

I was so diappointed that this book was an abridged version. Later I found the complete novel. I believe that the author wrote 2 versions of the book. Be sure yours in unabridged.
