Classic Starts: The Prince and the Pauper (Classic Starts Series)

This series is a great way to introduce young children to literature. But some Classic Starts titles are better than others.

Prince and the Pauper is wonderful. This retelling faithfully tells the story, but in a more simple language that first through third graders can easily understand. I think a second grader who loves to read, or most third graders, should be able to read this on their own. As for me, I'm reading it to my second grader who loves books, but still will not put forth the effort to read a chapter book like this. My son loves the story, looks forward to (me) reading it, and begs me to read more when I say it's time to stop. There are plenty of new words and concepts that allow us to stop for occasional discussion.

I think this is a far better story than Classic Starts War of the Worlds, but my son sure liked that one too. As for the Hunchback of Norte Dame, we had to stop reading that because even after a few chapters, the kids just couldn't get into it.

Bought this for my 9 year old for Christmas as this is one of the many books he asked for. Arrived fast and just as described! These books in the classic starts are a great series. Definitely will continue to order more.
