5.0 out of 5 stars HILARIOUS!!!!
I laughed so hard I couldn't believe it. Brer Rabbit is a character and you can't even be mad at his antics because even when Brer Turtle pulled the master trick of all tricks on him Brer Rabbit didn't even exchange words, he did what he'd told Brer Turtle he was going to do. (You have to read it to see what it was) Get this, your kids will love it and so will you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not remotely close to the original
I love Uncle Remus, and I love the original writing. This book is so abridged that it totally loses the character of the stories. I wanted to give this book away, but didn't want to stick anyone else with it. My 4-year old likes it because it has big color pictures, and my husband likes it because he has trouble reading the original. For an abridged version that's...

I wanted to give this book away, but didn't want to stick anyone else with it. My 4-year old likes it because it has big color pictures, and my husband likes it because he has trouble reading the original. For an abridged version that's easier to read, I highly recommend The Complete Tales by James Pinkney.

My mother was very disappointed with this book. She felt that the stories were poorly rewritten from the original Joel Chandler Harris version. But maybe her memory of the original stories is imperfect.

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor editing and awful typos, otherwise - loved it., June 6, 2008
This review is from: The Classic Tales of Brer Rabbit (Hardcover)
I bought this while in New Orleans to give to my granddaughters. I have been reading each story aloud to them. They love the stories and the illustrations.
I am so disappointed that the publisher did not correct the typesetting errors. I had to adjust what I was saying so that the improper syntax and typos would not be heard by my listeners. What a sad impact on a great book. Now I want to purchase another for my sister's children. I plan to include 10 or 20 one-dollar bills as finders rewards for them to identify the mistakes in the book. Hope that is enough. Basically making lemonade out of lemons. This book should be reprinted and offered as free replacement for current owners. Even Uncle Remus would have done that.

Excellent art depicting the characters and scenes. Very good beginning book for introducing the grandkids to the lessons of Brer Rabbit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as I remembered..., October 10, 2007
By
I remember as a child many, many years ago listening to and reading these tales of trickery and hoodwinking with a great sense of fondness.
I purchased this book for my own son and have enjoyed reliving these old-fashioned stories and re-acquainting myself with these clever, witty and crafty characters. This book has been adapted to a shortened version retold in a simplified english language that all will understand. The illustrations are large, bold and very colourful. This is a truely wonderful book of short stories and tales that will bring us many smiles in the years to come.

My four year old son absolutely loves this book. He really likes it when Brer Rabbit plays a trick on Brer Fox making him a sucker! The classic text is highlighted with excellent illustrations. This book is a joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made for reading aloud!, November 25, 2011
This review is from: The Classic Tales of Brer Rabbit (Hardcover)
I purchased a copy of this book when my first grandchild was still a toddler and it has been repeated over and over to all six of my grandchildren. Age makes no difference -- they all still love to hear the stories read aloud. Somehow my copy is missing now, however. Hopefully one of the children was "reading" it and didn't quite make it back to the bookshelf, but left it where I will eventually come across it. As popular as it has been with the children, I plan to purchase a copy for each of them to enjoy with their own children! I neglected to say that I remembered the movie character Uncle Remus enough to read the stories using the proper voices for the characters. The children and I really have made some delightful memories with Brer Rabbit and friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great children's book, July 13, 2011

These books were once for sale at Disney's Splash Mountain. They were less expensive at Amazon and we can no longer find them at Disney World. Great stories and they bring back memories of our own childhood with the early Disney movies. Thank you Amazon.
