4.0 out of 5 stars For anyone interested in television history this is great., August 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Television: Your Favorites From 1950's (7pc) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As someone who has both written about and for television, I found this set utterly fascinating. These are live TV shows from the early Fifties, before anyone really knew what would or would not work, so there are lots of wonderful moments and groaners, but it all adds to the charm. You get to see actors who would later be big stars when they were just starting out, and you get a vibrant, authentic feel of the times. I enjoyed this set enormously.

5.0 out of 5 stars THESE ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITES!, March 2, 2001
This review is from: Classic Television: Your Favorites From 1950's (7pc) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I'm a child of the mid 50's and these are some favorite classic tv shows from that time. I especially was happy to find two episodes of "I Married Joan" on these tapes. It was a favorite and it is almost impossible to find a lot of the episodes. (Just a side note, if anyone has the rights to the "Joan" series, please put this series out on tape for the many fans of the show!!)

This is a typical week of entertainment in primetime viewing of the 50's. You won't be disappointed if you are a true classic TV fan of that time.

2.0 out of 5 stars An anthology of mostly second tier shows from the 50s, March 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Classic Television: Your Favorites From 1950's (7pc) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a compendium of actual night time shows. This edition of 7 tapes covers a limited variety of TV from the 50s only. Show titles include NBC comedy Hour, The Alan Young Show, I've Got a Secret, Caesar's Hour, Texaco Star Theater, The $64,000 Question, This Is Your Life, Mama, Stage Show, The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, Topper, You Bet Your Life, The Jack Benny Show, I Married Joan, Space Patrol, Suspense, and Racket Squad. You may have been watching TV in the 50s and not remember some of these so the title "Your Favorites" may not really apply for you. The correct title should be "Some Shows From the 50s That We Could Get The Rights To". You will be disappointed if you were a kid in the 50s and expect (a)other decades than the 50s (the catalog listing doesn't say it is limited to the 50s) or (b) if you're looking for popular shows such as Rin Tin Tin, Sgt. Preston, Micky Mouse Club, Sky King, Howdy Doody, Captain Video, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Cisco Kid, and others that hold real memories for you.
