It is true - the drawings in this book are beautiful. However, I was hoping that the telling of the fables would have more of the original flavor. The stories have been updated to at least the 20th century. I am sure that when Aesop told the stories, the Country Mouse and the City Mouse didn't have to dodge automobiles and miss stepping in bubblegum. It was misleading that Aesop is listed as "editor" because the stories are not as he told them.

The overall messages (ie morals) are there. I just was disappointed that it was so updated. I'm sure that serves its purpose, but it wasn't what I wanted.

This book was a gift for my 4 year old. It seems to be a re-written edition which is fine, as it is easier to understand than other versions we have. The illustrations are wonderful and my daughter loves them. However I was a bit disappointed that they could not fill this book with more fables. It seems like sort of a thin book for the price, and some of the most popular fables were omitted from this version. Just an FYI, since Amazon seems to be mixing reviews on here among various versions of books... this review is for ISBN# 0-7624-0413-2. I bought this and other books based on reviews that were not relevent to the particular version of the book I purchased.

This is a beautiful classic book you'll want to give to your children and your grandchildren. There is at least one large beautiful illustration for each fable. The text size could be a bit larger, but the illustrations more than make up for it. The moral of each fable is at the bottom of the page.

I am starting my collection of children's books for my son. He is still a baby, but he loves to look at the big, interesting, and colorful pictures in this book. It is nice because there are very short stories for times when baby is particularly wriggley and it is time for bed, and longer stories for a growing attention span. He just likes the pictures right now. He tries to touch the animals on the pages. I like the fables because they teach good morals. This is one of those books that stays high on the bookshelf and can be a treasure for generations.

This is an amazing product and worth every cent - a must have for those of us who want to riase principled children.

It is kind large in that it can't sit on my bookshelf upright - but i wouldn't change the size as it accomodates beautiful wonderfully alrge pictures.

My compaint - i would have loved larger font - but that of course is persoanl prefernce as the font is more than readable

Again this is amazaing book - and the stories are so great - and to think of how old they are

Very easy to understand and great pictures for every story. Just wish it had more stories. Excellent book to get young readers interested in Aesop.

This is a flawlessly illustrated version of Aesop's most popular fables. There are barely any bookstores anymore-But the local Barnes and Noble, as well as the closing Borders-didn't have anything nearly as nice on their shelves. I could go on and on.. But in summary-ALL children should be exposed to Aesop's fables-If not at home, then in school. I think our society has lost interest in basic morality and many of these fables relate to the way we should all treat others. The pictures are so eye-catching, that even the most movement-prone 6 year old I know- sat still and paid attention. A beautiful book-A deal, at $9.95, and a keepsake!

This book was required for our homeschool curriculum so I purchased it here. I really didn't know what "Aesop's Fables" were, but I had heard of the name. I was very pleased when the book arrived. These are stories that I remember reading as a child! Great "life lesson" stories. Every child should have this book!

I have always thought that Aesop's fables have offered valuable life lessons for everyone throughout time. Being Greek, it is important to me for my grandchildren to become aware of the offerings Greece has offered to mankind and their personal history. Now that my grandchildren's ancestry is more diverse, this book may encourage them to research the other ancestries that have contributed to their personal history.

This book has great illustration and the classic Aesop Fables I expected. The stories are short and easy to read.
