From School Library Journal
K-Gr 5-This collection is unusually comprehensive, containing both traditional and less-familiar prayers, all well chosen for a young audience. The emphasis is Christian. Arranged broadly by subject, the book includes material on animals, seasons, festivals, forgiveness, virtues, and blessings, to name a few, and incorporates poetry, hymns, and excerpts from the Psalms and the New Testament. Presented in a large, clear, easily readable format, the selections are illustrated by paintings of all sizes, from vignettes to double-page spreads, in which warm colors predominate. The unusual, almost surreal, artistic technique features elongated human figures with tiny heads and boxy or stretched-out stylized animals and is not especially suitable for the subject matter. Also, the connection between the picture and the text is sometimes unclear. On the plus side, the book has subject, author, and first-line indexes, making the contents very accessible.-Patricia Pearl Dole, formerly at First Presbyterian School, Martinsville, VA
