4.0 out of 5 stars 50/50 - I bought two March 23, 2010

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I got two of these controllers because they're cheap and meet the requirements for what I needed them for (playing emulated NES/SNES/Sega, etc games). I used the free shipping which took so long I forgot that I had ordered them, but it was still here before their last possibly delivery date by 2 days. I immediately opened the first controller, plugged it in, had it recognized by Windows 7 Enterprise and configured it with my emulator and was playing Bubble Bobble with in 5 minutes.

My girlfriend got excited and rushed to open the other one, I plugged it in, had it recognized by Windows but nothing would work to get the buttons to actually do anything. I tried 4 different USB ports on the back of my custom rig to no avail, unplugged the one that worked and wiped controller one to test to see if maybe they were just conflicting and it still wouldn't do anything at all (I am a certified computer technician and I do it for a living).

I'm going to go ahead and leave it at 4 stars because the one that works works well and all the buttons on it look and feel like an original SNES controller. They're kind of cheap plastic, but what do you expect for something which costs half as much as the only other option locally (a Logitech game pad for $25 at Best Buy where I'm from, these were $13 each and shipped free).

I have filled out a UPS pick up return for the other one and the package is already waiting outside my door for them to come get the bad one tomorrow. There are no driver cds or anything with them just a really cheap cardboard box with tons of plastic wrap, so YMMV on getting them installed properly, I had no problems with auto-detection on Windows 7.

4.0 out of 5 stars USB game pad November 27, 2009

Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Nice controller overall. The buttons are responsive and not mushy. The D-pad is a little noisy and creaky but works well with both Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64.

The pad also works nicely with emulation software on the laptop.

1.0 out of 5 stars broken left D-pad after 30 minutes of use August 8, 2011

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
The D-pad left direction stopped working after using it for 30 minutes. This controller is essentially useless.
Waste of money.

I ordered four of these, they work great! I am currently using them with a SNES Emulator on Mac OS Snow Leopard. However, they seem to have a trick to them to make them function properly. Two of the four controllers needed an adjustment. The buttons would not respond correctly because the programming card inside each controller was loose. Simply unscrew the back of the controller and snap the card into position where it should be (the position is obvious based on the structure inside the case). That's it! After I adjusted the two.. I never had any more problems :). Based on this.. these controller should be worth only about 8-10 bucks. Not 15. Hope this review helps!

Installed instantly, worked with ZSNES on Vista and Windows 7. It looks pretty much just like the real deal, but be advised that the whole thing is definitely lighter / cheaper feeling than a real SNES controller. That said, after I few minutes of playing, I was used to it and it didn't bother me anymore.

TOUCHY D-Pad: Like others have said here, when I first got it, the d-pad was very touchy. Specifically, it worked great in all directions but left; to go left, I had to hit the button directly straight on, which as you know is not always an option when Diddey Kong is about to hit an enormous bee in mid-air! BUT THERE'S AN EASY FIX if you have a tiny Phillips screw driver:

I removed all five screws and the back lifts right off of the controller (one screw is hidden under a quality inspection sticker). lift out the beige main board carefully. Note how everything is arranged so you can put it back that way when you're done. (This is all a lot easier than it sounds...there aren't that many parts, I promise!) On mine, there was a little bit of extra plastic stuck to the back of the D-pad under the "back" button, like what gets leftover when they stamp out plastic parts super fast and cheap. Twisted this bit off with my fingers, inspected the others to make sure they were all good, and put it all back together again. Whole process took <10 minutes, and now it works perfectly!

SO, if you get one that has a touchy d-pad (or any other button, for that matter) it's probably just that the cheaply made plastic pieces have a bit of extra stuff that needs to be removed. You could return it, but there's no guarantee you won't have the same problem with the next one (these are really pretty cheap, after all).

Otherwise, this is great and I love it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this one October 17, 2010

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I was excited to get this controller and play some of my old favs via ZSNES. At first impressions, the controller felt nice, good weight, good feedback on the buttons; it also looked very good. After using it for about an hour it the left arrow on the d-pad became hard to use (you had to press very hard for it to work) and then the UP.. eventually the controller rendered itself completely useless.. pity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
This SNES USB controller feels like one, and it acts as one, almost. The D-Pad is a little off when you press right or left, you duck. But all in all, not bad.
