Quite different from "Big Ones",

Made in EU in 2000, Serial# 497-441-2, Playing Time: 76 min.A collection of 18 tracks lifted from the "Done With Mirrors" up to "Get A Grip" albums. Because this is the first review, I'm sending the full track listing separately. Unlike "Big Ones", the record company decided this time to include tracks from DWM (6 tracks!). Furthermore, the rest of the track selection is quite different from "Big Ones", and in my opinion, somewhat weaker. I'm surprised but mostly disappointed that songs like "Love In An Elevator", "Dude", and "Livin' On The Edge" are absent from this latest collection. Overall, "Big Ones" has more chances of getting in my CD player than this inferior compilation...

I don't think I've ever seen a compilation that has been so obviously compiled with such little care. There are 3 big annoyances: 1) calling it 'classic aerosmith' yet focusing on their more recent material, not to mention a lot of mediocre filler from those albums; 2) Neglecting big hits like 'Dude Looks Like a Lady' and 'The Other Side', to name a few; and 3) basically serving the same purpose of two collections already released by Geffen: 'Young Lust: An Aerosmith Anthology' & 'Big Ones', both of which summarize all the hits of this era and throw in some rarities just like 'Classic Aerosmith', only much better. This is a highly forgetable import.

Well what do you know its yet another Aerosmith compalation album. So lets see what is this a greatest hits, no. A best of, no. A anthology, no but thats what we'll go with because its the closest thing to what this is.
This like about seven other compalation albums covers Aerosmith from Done With Mirrors in 1985 up until about 1994 or so, so about a decade roughly. Why they dint include the Nine Lives album as well I dont understand, but oh well this just adds to one of the many reasons why this is a bad compalations album, if you can call it that. Not only does this not have anyhting from Nine Lives but its mostly just underrated songs that were never released as a single. Which for me, a hardcore Aerosmith fan that cool. But people out there that are not a die hard Aerosmith fan like myself are not going to want a Classic Masters Collection (which this isnt!) that features instrumentals like 'Movie', which most of the world has never even heard of, or 'The Hop' which even fewer people have heard. Look every song on here is good, its by Aerosmith so of course it is but You cant call something a Classics collection and release songs that are not classics. Maybe seven or eight, or if you really wanna stretch it nine songs are classics. Most of Aerosmiths classic songs were released in the 1970's and they are most deffinatley not included here. Like most of Aeromsiths compalations this was released with out the band even knowing it until a kid went up to Joe Perry and asked him to sign the cover. Like I said this has nothing but good songs, but there are about seven otehr cds with all these songs and many more for a better price and a more appropreit title. So if you want it buy it buy this is really only for completest and diehards, and if you not one of those then get Oh Yeah! Ultamate Aerosmith Hits instead, its way better!

Every song is a HIT!!!,

Every album is a must have for any Aerosmith fan. For those who "Boo" this album for not having Dude(lookes like a lady) is lame. There is more to Aersomith than that one song. I like the classics. I wish they would have a album that has songs that have not been on a greatest hit album. Dust off some of the older songs and make them new again.

I think that although this album dosen't have the great hits like "Big Ones" this is a very strong album anyway. It has favorites by the band and songs that are great to listen to when you are sick of the other stuff. It is composed of mostly album fillers from Done With Mirrors to Get A Grip.Overall these are great songs if you are a hardcore Aerosmith fan, fairly new with Aerosmith, or if you are just tired of the other stuff. It's a fairly easy to track down import too. Don;'t listen to everything you hear, this is a good album!

Gems of the Geffen days,
By
This review is from: Classic: The Universal Masters (Audio CD)
This is a collection of the Geffen days albums (1985-1993) that features some of the hits (only the best of them- Janie's Got A Gun, Amazing...) alongside with obscure tracks from those albums- amazing tracks- that makes this CD the defenitive collection from the Geffen days that shows both the familliar side and the less familliar side of Aerosmith. Songs like She's On Fire, The Movie, Monkey On My Backs are bonafide classics but would never made in onto Big Ones, that was more of a singles collection. You can call it "Gems of the Geffen days" ("Gems" was a collection of songs from the early Columbia days (1972-1982) that weren't big hits but was farourite songs by the band members, and is much better from the Greatest Hits record) |
