Excellent formatting and has a working table of contents which is great (as compared to the other versions floating around on the Amazon site)!! I can't believe I am getting this many books for under a buck!

Twenty-six Zane Grey novels for $1.99. It doesn't get any better. Zane Grey brings the turn of the century west to life. His description of scenery is outstanding. The words describe the environment the characters use as a gigantic stage. The dialect fits each character. Seldom does a writer describe the inner person with the same detail used in the many action scenes. I read a lot of fiction and have written two action/adventure novels. Modern writing styles are very different. Zane Grey's stories will stand the passing of time. He is a true giant of his genre.

I am a health care provider for an 85 year old WWII veteran with parkinsons disease. There's not much he can really do, but he asked me if I would read to him an old western novel he had. This is how I was introduced to Zane Grey. I didn't think I was going to like it, but I didn't care because it was for the pleasure of this wonderful man I am working for. Well, I have fallen in love with The UP Trail! So, I decided to order this classic western set so I can continue reading to him from Zane Grey. It has been a joy. Mr. Grey's vivid description of the wild west is amazing. It makes us feel we are right there at that moment! Anyway, we both love it and can't wait to continue reading the next adventure! Truly a joy and a "life saver".

I like old-fashioned westerns and I like to read those by Zane Grey. He is a particularly good writer, and many of his rip-roarin' westerns have rightly become classics. But be aware a goodly number of his books are more "prairie romance" than action-packed western, and in these there's often more huff and bluff than gunfire. Many of his books were not set in the "old west" of the past but in "modern" times, meaning contemporary to when he wrote them; these often depicted a rugged male abiding by a highly developed sense of fair-play and moral integrity (in contrast to the sneaky "villain" who did not), a chaste female heroine, misunderstanding, romance, and overall wholesomeness leading to a happy ending. Several works in this collection--though they may be set in the western states--are not what we would normally call "westerns," and others are baseball stories and nonfiction accounts of fishing and camping. Sadly the majority of his greatest westerns are not yet inexpensively or freely available in public domain editions. No matter what he wrote (prairie romance, baseball stories, fishing accounts, or classic westerns), Grey knew how to tell a good story, and his vivid descriptions are second to none.

UPDATE 05-08-13: You may wish to compare this set of 26 to another Zane Grey collection recently published by Wildside Press as "The Zane Grey Megapack." Attractively formatted and offering 42 novels and stories for only $.99, that now seems like the better deal.

I bought this work for my iPad to be read with a Kindle App. The Amazon listing for this collection clearly indicates that there are 26 western novels herein. Be aware that:

1. These works are NOT all novels (The Redheaded Outfield, Tales of Fishes, The Last of the Plainsmen, e.g., are definitely not novels).

2. Nor would I consider all of the remaining works that are indeed novels to be westerns, per se. Three of the earliest Zane Grey published novels (Betty Zane, The Spirit of the Border, and The Last Trail) deal with the Ohio Valley in the late 1700's; while such may technically be considered "western" for that period of time in American history, these are more Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett type of early pioneer adventures.

3. The "interactive table of contents" only works for several of the renderings (the rest you have to locate by using the Kindle search function within the ebook).

4. Typical of all such low cost collections, there are many typos and much missing punctuation to deal with. This gets tiresome after a while.

To be sure, there is some value here. One can't go totally wrong for $1.99!

I am truely enjoying these novels by Zane Grey. I am an avid western reader, and these are among the best stories I have read. I would recommend this to anyone that likes to read westerns.
