What a great resource for writers!

Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life is filled with relevant quotes and insights that many people need to hear. And this is a great resource to help writers find quotes for their articles and illustrations.

I found this book to also be good for slow ready and meditation. To read the quotes slowly and think...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book of Quotes, May 12, 2010
By
This review is from: Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life (Hardcover)
Thanks to Thomas Nelson's BookSneeze program, I was able to review Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life by Bryan Curtis. This book is a fantastic source for inspiring and motivational quotes from famous people such as Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, Mark Twain, Conan O'Brien, and many more.

Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life edited by Bryan Curtis is a book of quotes. It is a really great present for someone who just graduated from college, starting a new career, or even those who are looking for a new career or job.

The book itself is a short read, if wanting to read all the quotes in one sitting it is definitely possible to do so. To really get more out of the quotes though, I would suggest reading a few pages a day. The quotes that really stick with you, perhaps you can print out and put in a frame to encourage and inspire you each time you read it.

Personally, I love reading good quotes. I have a word document which I save quotes I find inspiring in some way. I plan on one day adding them to a special quotes journal. Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life shares so many fantastic quotes that I really can't share all of the ones I personally loved. However, I will share some of my top favorite quotes with you, maybe they will bring you some inspiration too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Professional Wisdom, August 18, 2011
This review is from: Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life (Hardcover)
The fact that this book held quotes from Aristole to Obama made it timeless. The fact that there were quotes from Bill Gates to JK Rowling makes it accessible wisdom for all who read it.
Yes, it's great to find quotes to use in papers or speeches. But it's also a wonderful tool in which to discover your own philosiphy about life.

4.0 out of 5 stars nuggets of wisdom for your professional life, August 10, 2010
By

This review is from: Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life (Hardcover)
For as much time spent in our careers and the amount of investment to create a professional life we would be fools to think that lessons learned there wouldn't overlap into our personal lives. The overarching theme of this little book is for the individual to find something that they can build their life on.

For some it is in the pursuit of professional accomplishments, for others it is in the advancement of mankind and still others it is in the complete emptying of oneself for the Glory of the God they serve. But in all cases the wisdom found in these short quotes is to be passionate about whatever you do. This book would be a great gift for your graduate, or young entrepreneur starting off their own.

This is one of those little books that finds its way into the bathrooms of America and is read on a continual basis delivering nuggets of wisdom that are shared at family dinner tables and quoted by keynote speakers. You will enjoy the contributors and find the pages to be clever, humorous, entertaining and thought provoking. Here are some of my favorites...

"Its kind of fun to do the impossible." -Walt Disney

"The purpose of life is a life of purpose."-Robert Byrne

"The man who complains about the way the ball bounces is likely to be the one who dropped it." -Lou Holtz

I hope you will one day be one of those whom little books are written about and the wisdom you learned from the life you lived both in your personal life and The Professional Life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life, July 2, 2010
This review is from: Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life (Hardcover)
This book is a compilation of quotes from well-known celebrities and business people. At 163 pages it is a very quick read as most pages have not more than one or two short quotes. The quotes range from inspirational and inspiring to humorous and intelligent all the while staying light hearted and doesn't overwhelm the reader by bombarding them with information.

I actually really enjoyed this book. I often find professional or business related books quite dry and lifeless, but the simplicity of this compilation of quotes really worked for me. I found it really interested, inspiring and even enlightening reading simple quotes from successful people I already respect. It is the sort of book you can spend 2 or 3 minutes a day reading and getting inspired by, without any effort at all. It's so simple it works, at least for me. I will definitely be keeping this book on my bookshelves for years to come, and expect I will refer to it often.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quotes for everyday professional life and next presentation, June 3, 2010
By

This review is from: Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life (Hardcover)
Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life is a collection of quotes, one-liners and proverbs that help you at dull moments in your career or just the need for a strong motivational phrase in your next presentation. There are quotes on work, leadership, character, success, problems and money from a variety of politicians, celebrities, former leaders and obscure ones. Pick your favorites from people like John D. Rockefeller, Colin Powell, Dwight D. Eisenhower, L.L. Bean, Nancy Pelosi, Henry Ford or Arnold Schwarzenegger. Classic wisdom...is a great gift book, helpful to start each day or end your e-mails with an `original' signature. I just picked a couple to give you an impression: "All you need is love...and some comprehensive technology!" (Bono), "Ability is of little account without opportunity" (Lucille Ball) and "The best work never was and never will be done for money" ( John Ruskin).

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read, June 3, 2010
This review is from: Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life (Hardcover)
I reviewed this book for Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze program. The book provides a collection of quotes to inspire, motivate and inform people aspiring to be successful in their chosen professional field. The book can be covered cover-to-cover in a one time read but it will take a while to assimilate and put into practice the wisdom conveyed. It makes for a very interesting read. I personally would have preferred more quotations from people in the business arena as opposed to people from the political field. All in all, it is a book worth having in your book shelf and when consumed with doubt with respect to your career, turning over a few pages should help alleviate those doubts.

Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life [Bryan Curtis]

I read this book for a few different reasons:
1) I love quotes. Who doesn't like a good collection of great poetic wisdom?
and
2) I am a young professional. Well, kind of. Does an unpaid internship count?

Anyways, once I started reading it didn't take me long to get through all of the quotes from cover to cover. It is a great collection of quotes that will have you turning every page when you first pick it up, however, it will make a great book to keep on your desk at work or your computer desk at home. It is full of practical wisdom for not just professionals, but for anyone who has any capacity of a leadership position. The book is full of inspiration and motivation from seasoned and successful professionals. I highly recommend Classic Wisdom for the Professional Life to any quote lover, leadership figure, college student....anyone, really. It makes for a quick and pleasant read and will remain a great resource for professional inspiration.

One of my favorite quotes from the first time through the book comes from Conrad Hilton: "Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit."
