4.0 out of 5 stars Classical Music with A Twist of Avant-Garde, March 21, 2011

One would think something titled "Classical Chillout 2" would contain a variety of laid-back classical music. Most pieces are just that, but interspersed are movie pieces and other genre music that don't seem to fit in. The Penguin Cafe Orchestra's "Telephone and Rubber Band" track is a good example. This song is based around a tape loop of a UK telephone ringing tone intersected with an engaged tone, accompanied by the twanging of a rubber band. It's catchy, but hardly classical, and soon becomes tedious. Another example is "Vision" by Hildegard Von Bingen, arranged and performed by Richard Souther. It is classical music, but this version is New Age, awful and anything but "chillout easy-listening." Overall, most are great selections, but it's that sprinkling of weird junk that rates this two-CD set four stars.

I bought the first Classical Chillout cd set and was very pleased with it. This one is also very enjoyable with a wide variety of classical music and current songs, all relaxing. Nice combinations and performances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Classical Spectrum, March 20, 2005

These cd's are a great set of varied classical music. Pavane is my favorite. Additionally, Classical Chillout 2 offers theme music from Harry Potter and it is very well done.
