5.0 out of 5 stars A very straightforward way to learn classical guitar., January 23, 2005
By
This review is from: Classical and Fingerstyle Guitar Techniques (Musicians Institute Master Class) (Sheet music)
This is a pretty good book for someone new to classical guitar. I liked the way it was set up,it would start with some finger exercises have a lesson on a certain technique and then end with a song that utilizes that technique and that's pretty much the lay out of most of the book, simple and straightforward. It also explains different ways to hold the guitar and how to correctly position your arms and fingers to be most effecient. I have gone half way through this book so far and my fingerstyle has improved a lot especially now that I know the correct way to do everything. Considering the low price of the book which includes a cd it's a great buy for anyone looking to learn classical guitar from scratch or just brush up on their technique.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre book!, June 3, 2005
By
This review is from: Classical and Fingerstyle Guitar Techniques (Musicians Institute Master Class) (Sheet music)
Basically the author takes the most common techniques and doesn't do a good job of explaining them. The repertoire is trite, overdone material. This book has nothing new to offer and is probably not the best introduction to classical music and techniques.

5.0 out of 5 stars Already a player, but new to nylon or fingerstyle?, November 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Classical and Fingerstyle Guitar Techniques (Musicians Institute Master Class) (Sheet music)
How many acoustic guitars would you expect to find in any given class at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood? This book is not an exhaustive study of technique for the aspiring classical guitarist- nor is it intended to be (in my opinion)- it is clearly written for the electric rock, jazz, or blues player with little or no experience without a pick. Fundamentals applicable to steel, nylon, electric and acoustic, Segovia to Simon and Garfunkel, Atkins and Knopfler. Clear, concise, and to the point. Objectives, directions, exercises, good advice, and carefully selected music. Tablature and 92 track CD included.
