Delightful!, December 26, 2010
I was impressed with Heart of the Dragon Ensemble after listening to them on "The Very Best of Chinese Music" CD and wanted to hear more. "Classical Folk Music From China" was a real joy to listen to, and includes my favorite Chinese song ("Little Boat") from "The Very Best...". The sounds of the ensemble are relaxing and happy on this CD; my favorite songs are "Little Boat," "Dream Til Tomorrow," and "Bamboo Dance". I found "Beautiful Africa" to be a surprise - how does Chinese music convey the spirit of Africa? Well, it does, and quite well! The song conjures images of the African sun over the still savanna in my mind, and as I continued to listen to the CD, each song invoked different images in my mind - I could hear night, the waves and sand, and the winding down of a day spent fishing.
If you are looking for thoughtful, relaxing, and cheerful traditional Chinese music, I recommend this CD. And if you're looking for authentic traditional/folk songs, I also recommend this CD to you!
