A pleasant surprise,

This is undoubtedly one of the best bluegrass instrumental albums - if not the best one - I have ever listened to. Well, perhaps not strictly bluegrass but anyway the music is very enjoyable. This was the first Butch Baldassari album I purchased but surely not the last one. Thus, warmly recommended. You won't be disappointed!

Good effort, poor name.,
By Stephen P Fisher (San Antonio, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Classics for Bluegrass Mandolin (Audio CD)
For a CD with this title, there is too much banjo, and too little bluegrass. What remains is predictable lead changes between fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar, and bass. That and a sorta bluesy, sorta bluegrass, sorta musack mixed effort. Don't get me wrong. BB lays down some great mandolin playing, and there are some great songs. Especially noteworthy are his efforts on Old Jerico Waltz, and It's Raining the Blues... 4 stars overall, but only three stars if you really are interested in a mandolin emphasis.
