Biography

Ernest Evans was born in Spring Gulley, South Carolina, but grew up in South Philadelphia, where he lived with his parents and two brothers. When he was a small boy, his mother took him to see Sugar Child Robinson, a child piano prodigy and also the famous country singer Ernest Tubb. Young Evans was so impressed, that he vowed to someday enter show business and took his first step toward that goal… Read more in Amazon's Chubby Checker Store

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST CHUBBY CHECKER ALBUM CURRENTLY AVAILABLE!, November 11, 2004

We all know that Chubby Checker recorded for Parkway Records back in the 60's and that his original recordings were never released on CD! Folks, this is the next best thing - these recordings on Chubby's own label are quality recordings that sound very much like the originals. I got this CD autographed by Chubby himself in August 2004. The CD contains 18 tracks including two new tracks - "Limbo Rock/ Do The Limbo" and "The Original Master of The Dance Hall Beat" Don't be afraid to buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Moving' Memories!, February 22, 2007
This review is from: Classics (Audio CD)
Listening to good ol' Chubby brings back many 'moving' memories! Revisiting his hit-after-hit-after-hit all conveniently packaged in this collector's item CD is definitely highly recommended and should be included in your collection sooner than soon. Chubby's upbeat and different rendition of the familiar 'Mary Ann' rates my favorite here but I do question the inclusion of 'The Original Master of the Dancehall Beat' at the end of the CD as this, in my opinion, dramatically departs from the mood of the previous pieces. All-in-all, though, it's a very reasonably priced and entertaining 'must buy'.
