Book Description

February 1, 1995

In order to understand the faith of Judaism, according to Jacob Neusner, one must look at the very foundation of that faith: the Torah. To believers, this act of studying the Torah provides a direct and immediate link to the living God and forms the very basis of a faithful Jewish life. In this book, Jacob Neusner introduces the reader to selections from all the documents of the Torah, in addition to Scripture, that define the canon of Judaism in its formative age. The Classics of Judaism is, however, more than a collection of writings. It is also a primer for learning how to approach and read any book of Judaism.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Classics of Judaism, November 2, 2008

This review is from: The Classics of Judaism: A Textbook and Reader (Paperback)
This book is so easy to read, yet packed with abounding knowledge to the student of the wisdom of Judaism. If you are also a student of the Bible and God's Torah, you will love going deeper into the meanings of the scriptures by peering thru Hebrew eyes into fascinating revelation after revelation from other Jewish sources such as the Talmud and Mishnah. As the Author, Jacob Neusner, expounds in his introduction..."If you want to meet God, you open a book and study. That labor of learning, studying a document of the Torah, is the first place, and the most important place, where you find God". And then you begin your journey to discovering wonderful things from the scriptures....wonderful things about God, Himself, and how He not only relates, but daily interacts with His people.
