Delivers what it says....,
By
This review is from: Classics of Organization Theory (Paperback)
I used this book (actually the 3rd edition) in preparing for my comprehensive exams for my master's degree. The title is descriptive. The book is short excerpts of key writings on the organization theory. The selection of readings is appropriate. The only complaint I have is that sometimes I wished I had the complete book in question! On the other hand, some of this stuff is really dry. If you are pursuing the field in an academic way, this is a valuable book. But I can't imagine reading it for enjoyment or idle curioisity.

Great Collection Of Classics Of Organizational Theory,

This review is from: Classics of Organization Theory (with InfoTrac) (Paperback)
This is another collection of readings that illustrate the intellectual development of an academic discipline. Organization theory is a discipline that is important to understanding how the building blocks of modern society work and how that shapes the behavior of those members within each organization. The readings are representative of what happened in the development of this literature. You also are treated to some commentary explaining why what happened did and explanation for each development. All in all, a great book.

Authors have regualarly kept up trends in the field. Selections are justified and well categorized. Still postmodern topic is not included.

The first 45 pages of this book were extremely BORING! Once you get through them, the rest of the book is a pretty good read. Make sure you read the introduction to each chapter and article.

This book is the same book that was suggested on my syllabus for my graduate Management Theory class, but was a whole lot cheaper online! It arrived in a very timely mannner - and its soft cover!
The introductons are the best because it overs a clear overview of the each section - some of the outdated writing of the articles can be a bit tough to read through - so the intro's help a lot.

If you want to know what was, and how we got to where we are today, you'll get that with this book. I've been in public administration for about 10 years. It's providing me with some great ah-ha's.

I have used this as a required textbook for one class, and referred to the articles and references numerous times over the years.

This book was reduced by $4.00 from other advertised books. There were a couple of highlighted pages, but not that many. It arrived a little longer that I had anticipated from other times I had ordered via Amazon. But if I had to nit-pick something, that would be it.

This is a very boring and dry read. The print is small and the chapters are long. I had a hard time reading even portions of this. Get it at the library if you have to read this book for a class.
