In 1953, Robert Straub set off for a year's study abroad in France. Already interested in cars and their designs (he was later to become a designer for General Motors) he took hundreds of snapshots of exotic (to him) cars on the streets. By the time he returned to France a decade later, nearly all the cars he had seen previously had disappeared due to stringent post-WW II taxes. Healthy nostalgia,

It may be odd to look at photos of 50 years of age showing automotive things, but for me it was fantastic. Being somewhat younger than the author I tried to do the same ten years later in my hometown, Gothenburg in Sweden. The most interesting automobiles was a Talbot-Lago Baby and a Salmson Convertible. These Cars to me seemed to be the last real enthusiasts automobiles. Their carisma of absolute absence of compromise was 100%. Certainly every picture in Mr Straub`s book is worth contemplation before sleeping time.
