This book is great, but ask yourself what you want from it, November 12, 2010
This review is from: Classics in Total Synthesis II: More Targets, Strategies, Methods (Vol. 2) (Paperback)
This book is awesome, without doubt! Almost every focused Organic Chemist, or a synthetic chemist would definitely know this book. It gives a detailed analysis of the synthesis of popular compounds in a beautiful way. So beautifully that its almost as if you were having a conversation with the guy who designed the sequence. Its really valuable that way. However, know what you want. If you don't want to do synthesis for like the rest of your life, this book will give you a lot, but has no point unless you need it.
Also, one musn't try "learning" out of this book, but rather UNDERSTAND the APPLICATION of transforms. It also teaches you HOW to think. When I say, "learning", I mean, you can't memorize sequences, or the structures, you can just appreciate how they did it, and gives you a wider view of how YOU could apply them too. Hope that helped.
