5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for any teacher!
I am very impressed with this book. It truly is a ready-reference to keep in your desk. It has lots and lots of great ideas that are very original and effective. It's easy to find whatever you're looking for and he really hits upon ALL kinds of situations teachers find themselves in. The main thing I found is this book is unlike any other I've seen. 2.0 out of 5 stars NOT for Primary Teachers!
I ordered this book in the hopes it would give me some time-tested ideas for discipline and behavior problems in my first-grade class. It didn't. Most of the ideas presented in this book were obviously for upper grades -- ideally, middle and high schools. Ideas for time-fillers that I hoped to use were definitely geared toward older kids (searching encyclopedias for...

It takes any situation and gives you several possible solutions. What I liked most is that the suggestions work, they take minimal time, you don't always have to send the kid to the office, and best of all, the suggestions actually teach the student something, usually accountability and resposibility. I highly recommend this book to all teachers.

I ordered this book in the hopes it would give me some time-tested ideas for discipline and behavior problems in my first-grade class. It didn't. Most of the ideas presented in this book were obviously for upper grades -- ideally, middle and high schools. Ideas for time-fillers that I hoped to use were definitely geared toward older kids (searching encyclopedias for information, cutting out specific ads from newspapers, writing small biographies). But the one thing that really got to me was this: Under the heading "Avoiding Problems on the First Day of School": The book says all of one sentence on how to prepare for students who cry on the first day of school. "...Be prepared; keep a box of tissues in your desk." Yes, it's ideas like this that made me wonder what the author was thinking when writing this book. It may have useful things for teachers of older students, but info for primary teachers is DEFINITELY lacking!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for basic behavior problems - but didn't help, December 29, 2003
This review is from: Classroom Discipline Problem Solver: Ready-to-Use Techniques & Materials for Managing All Kinds of Behavior Problems (Paperback)
I support first year teachers in an urban school district. They are currently faced with extreme classroom behavior problems that are not addressed in this book. I also don't think this book is "real" when redirecting defiant and aggresive adolescent behavior. It does provide great creative ideas for basic problems that most teachers don't ever have the time to think about, but it did not help with our concerns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classroom Discipline Problem Solver gets an A+ from me, January 30, 2002

This is one of the best books of its kind for beginning, new, or experienced teachers. All the bases are covered with excellent examples. The book itself is well written, and really is the one book I keep at my desk for ready reference. It has all the information in one place, and the illustrations are excellent. I only wish I had this information and practical ideas when I was learning to be a teacher. This book is a "keeper," believe me. Classroom management can be the Achilles Heel of beginning teachers. This book more than evens the odds, it tilts the table in your favor. It gets my highest recommendation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, March 28, 2003
This review is from: Classroom Discipline Problem Solver: Ready-to-Use Techniques & Materials for Managing All Kinds of Behavior Problems (Paperback)
I wish I had this book 4 years ago when I started teaching. Most of my discipline practices have been by trial and error. The section on who to take with you on a field trip....excellent! I made a huge mistake last spring and because of it, I have now sworn off field trips. If I had this book, I really think I would have avoided the mistakes that were made. This book is geared for the high school classroom, but can also be used in the middle school. A must for every teacher!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have for Middle School Teachers!, May 13, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Classroom Discipline Problem Solver: Ready-to-Use Techniques & Materials for Managing All Kinds of Behavior Problems (Paperback)
I love this book! I began teaching this year with no support from my administration and no discipline at my school. I purchased this in April and even in the month I have been using the ideas in it, this book has kept me from pulling out my hair! I can't wait to start over next year and use more ideas! I LOVE the nuts and bolts idea in this book! I have Watson's other book as well which is catered to younger classrooms than mine.
Its hard to find classroom management techniques that work in a middle school classroom!

I really enjoyed this book. It has many wonderful ideas and techniques for teachers of all grade levels. They are well organized with precise titles in the Table of Contents at the front of the book. The techniques are well laid-out in the book and are reader-friendly. I read about techniques that I can surely use in my classroom tomorrow. I would highly recommend this book to any teacher at any grade level. There truly is "something for everyone" in this book

1.0 out of 5 stars This was horrible, September 19, 2005
This review is from: Classroom Discipline Problem Solver: Ready-to-Use Techniques & Materials for Managing All Kinds of Behavior Problems (Paperback)
I actually returned the book and took a loss because this book was neither worth the paper it was printed on nor was it anything that should ever be sold...EVER. I apologize to the author because I feel sorry that they ever let you print this worthless excuse for helpful materials. I will use my own techniques and know that it is much better than this.
