Includes a Helpful "Works" and "Does Not Work" Table of Methods, August 19, 2008
This review is from: Classroom Discipline Survival Guide for Middle School/Junior High Teachers (Hardcover)
There are many books on classroom management, but this one is unique in that it compares effective and ineffective methods side-by-side (p. 221), especially for slower students. As an experienced teacher, I found this comparison quite useful.
Examples:
NOT WORK "Unstructured activities or free time."
WORK "Structured learning activities."
NOT WORK "Mostly open-ended questions."
WORK "Mostly narrow teacher questions with a `right' answer."
NOT WORK "Vague or general praise."
WORK "Specific praise for good performance."
