5.0 out of 5 stars Stellar product...expensive though
This is an absolutley awesome product to use if you are trying to blend a cat or a dog door into an old, historic colonial home. I had to get a medium size for my big Maine Coon cat and after a week or two of him freaking out over it. He is doing great...however, I did need to remove the magnets at the bottom to make it easier for the big guy since he litterally had to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice...but don't like the magnets
The cat door looks very nice on our garage door. But after trying to train my cats to use the door (which only took a few days) I found out that they would not go out with the flap down. I googled how to train your cat to use a cat door and everything I read said don't get a cat door with magnets, because the cats don't like it. It makes it more difficult for them to...

This is an absolutley awesome product to use if you are trying to blend a cat or a dog door into an old, historic colonial home. I had to get a medium size for my big Maine Coon cat and after a week or two of him freaking out over it. He is doing great...however, I did need to remove the magnets at the bottom to make it easier for the big guy since he litterally had to punch his paw through it to get through. The price is a bit high and one would expect it to be all metal but atleast the locking door is metal. The whole object would be to protect your home in the event that someone was to kick it in and with a plastic frame and a metal door plate it would not be hard to do. Good, stylish product...but if I had the option to spend a wee bit more and have a fully metal unit I'd go that route.

I have a Maine Coon cat and the litter boxes are in the basement. I had to keep the door open all the time for him to go down. Which was a pain because of the draft and moving the door to get through the hallway. I checked out others on the web, but just loved the way this looked. I am so thrilled with this and it was so easy to install, my brother came over and had it in the door withing 15 minutes. My cat also loves it!!! Just the fact that he can walk in and out of it. It also looks really nice in the door, my friends and family have commented on how neat it looks. Just having the door shut and not having to worry about him not having access to the litter boxes is great. I also like the fact that you can buy different colors for it or seasonal ones. I would recommend this to anyone who has a cat or small dog.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute! And easy to install, April 5, 2011

I went through a few doors and I just felt they were beyond my carpentry skills. I also didn't want to remove the door to cut my holes. I found the instructions to be easy and straight forward. My only suggestion is be very careful about your cuts. I feel like I followed the template pretty well and there are gaps at the top of the door, I think my initial drill holes might be to blame, I should have kept them on the inside of the template. I just used a little caulk to fill the exposed areas and will paint the door to hide my mistakes. The door is cute and the flap feels stronger than the last door, it seals better on the sides and bottom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value, unique design, January 4, 2012

This door is great, especially given that it's not much more expensive than the crummy ones you get at Petco. Installation directions were very, very clear and shipping was prompt. The novelty of this model is that the flap seals all the way around and the plastic frame is reinforced with stainless steel while the locking panel itself is entirely made of stainless steel. I knew my old door let in drafts, but once this one was installed I really got in touch with the amount of air leakage I'd been putting up with for years. Oddly, whatever material the flap itself is made of - some kind of silicon? - it does not seem to show dirt in the way that the previous, clear flap did. It's been installed for a couple of weeks and thus far no nose smudges or clinging hairs to be seen, which makes me even happier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install and SECURE, January 2, 2012
This review is from: Classy Custom Sherbert Alley Deluxe Pastel Pet Portal Pet Door, White, Medium (Misc.)
I was so happy with my pet portal that I have now purchased a second one for my new apartment. This is the only door that I have found that has the deadbolt security panel (I was appalled that this didn't come standard with all doors). The only problem I have with the door is the little rectangular magnets in the flap do not stay in their little "pockets" and they get lost quickly. They could be choking hazards in homes with children. I am very satisfied with this product; I am sure we will be buying another in a few years when/if we move to another home!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Five Star Pet Door, May 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
You get what you pay for with this item - a nice looking, high quality pet door. I did a lot of research and it seemed like every pet door I found was cheaply made and unattractive. I'm so glad I spent a bit extra on this one. It's very well designed and completely weatherproof, in that it seems to do a great job at keeping the AC in and the hot air out.

The installation requires some attention, preferably by someone skilled with a jigsaw. We cut the hole to the size of the template, then we used a file to level out the hole so that the pet door would slide in. The trick is to get the hole the perfect size, and keep the cuts level so that the door can slide in without being forced. With some careful attention, this is not a difficult installation. We installed it so that the bottom of the flap is 5 inches from the bottom of the door, and that seems to be a good height for my average sized cats.

Once installed, the door is adorable! My oldest cat was using it on his own the next day. The younger boy was going through it like a pro within 3 days. The little female cat still hasn't completely figured out that she can come through without my help, but she is on the timid side. Some cats may require a bit more training to use the door than others.

Adorable pet door! Looks great in our newly remodeled home. We put it in the bottom middle of a 6 panel door.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute and functional, March 26, 2010

I also keep my litter boxes in my basement. The door to our basement is also in a hallway that gets a lot of foot traffic. So keeping the door open all the time became a hassle. Also to add to my issue is I have a beagle that likes to seek out the cat box. Very gross. I knew a cat door was the solution but I find most to be quite ugly and I have really nice doors, so the thought of putting a hole in one of them caused me concern. I had thought about getting a regular cat door and adding molding around the opening myself but then I found this one and it was exactly what I was looking for! Installation was a breeze. My husband was impressed. We did remove the flap portion though. I have two cats, one that is adventurous and one that is not. The flap has beads around it which catch on the magnet part inside the opening. The flap makes a little bit of noise when it closes and I knew our one neurotic cat would not like it. The cat door looks cute and the materials are good quality. My one wish is that I wanted the slate colored frame and for some reason, the only options were the white, pink or yellow. The slate colored frame can be purchased separately. I bought the white. I am not sure I will spend the extra 15 dollars for the slate colored frame. Over all this is really a great product. The cats love it.

The cat door looks very nice on our garage door. But after trying to train my cats to use the door (which only took a few days) I found out that they would not go out with the flap down. I googled how to train your cat to use a cat door and everything I read said don't get a cat door with magnets, because the cats don't like it. It makes it more difficult for them to push, and they're scared of it. So, after over a month, our cat flap is still taped up on the door. However, it is better than having a cat box in the house! But I would not recommend a door with magnets. If but for that, it would've been perfect.
