i am in the fashion PR business and i must say i was very disappointed in the lack of fashion images and the excess of copy which reporting on a genius such as Claude Montana is inexcusable!!!!! His body of work from his early period in the 80's was and still is genius..was it shown in this book? NO!! i have better images of Montana's amazing talent than this author had access or choice to choose from!!!!!!!!

I WAS JUST A LITTLE DISAPOINTED WITH THE LACK OF PHOTAGRAPHS THAT DID NOT COME WITH THE BOOK. I KNOW AS WELL AS ANYONE WHO KNOWS THE DESIGNERS WORK KNOWS THAT THERE WERE A LOT MORE RUNWAY PICTURES THAN THE ONES THAT THE BOOK CONTAINS WITH MANY MORE MODELS AS WELL. I THOUGHT THERE WERE TO MANY PHOTO'S OF ONE GIRL (JENNY-ONE OF HIS FAVORITE'S)WHICH I UNDERSTAND BUT THERE WERE MANY MORE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE STORY AS WELL. BUT OTHER THAN THAT I AM PLEASED THAT THEY FINALLY PUT A BOOK OUT OF HIS WORK. MAYBE THEY WILL PUT OUT ANOTHER ONE WITH MORE INFORMATION (PHOTO'S)AT A LATER DATE.Claude Montana: Fashion Radical

As a teenager growing up in country Australia in the 1980's, Claude Montana's clothes provided me with the stuff of fashion dreams. Of all the Paris designers, his obsession with construction and fabric reflected my own yearning to escape the practicalities of "clothes" and be a part of "fashion." This book seemed to be the perfect opportunity to revisit some of the images and a designer who had a huge influence on my choice of career. Of course, now that I am part of the fashion world, my requirements are greater than a lush bunch of images. I need a bit of depth; especially now every second person interested in fashion has a blog and thinks that their view on fashion is worth reading about. In this regard, it certainly shows that author Marielle Cro - a journalist - maybe a great fan of Claude Montana, but she is no Suzi Menkes. The entire book reads like a press release. A very long press release which seems to have been written around the images, adding little to them. Cho goes on and on about the dreamy colors, sumptuous fabrics and sculptural shapes used to create Montana's stunning collections, yet provides no reference to where these particular garments are in the book. Such a pity a simple numbering or page referencing system wasn't used to integrate the text and the images. Having said this, the photos - of which there are many beautiful ones - have detailed descriptions of their own, including the collection and even the model's name. As another reviewer has already pointed out, their are practically no images of Montana's first several collections either, and only one shot of a model line-up on stage. This was a technique he seemed to have pioneered and which really pushed home his early themes. Perhaps they weren't happy with the quality of these earlier images.Read more ›

This book is a decent source of inspiration to anyone who studies genuine fashion design. The whole of the book is a bit lacking in depth, but for the most part, the book is well laid out and the pictures are clear. I was hoping for a more substantial look at Montana's work. Frankly speaking, a book this size could have been devoted just to his work at Lanvin, but I am happy with the results. The review should really be a 3.5.
