5.0 out of 5 stars Fragile voice that drips with sexual awakening., April 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Claudine Longet - A & M Digitally Remastered Best (Audio CD)
What a treat for those of us "Rock Freaks" who secretly lusted after Claudine and her music in the late sixties/early seventies, but never admitted it. She is not Janis, Grace, Barbra, nor Celine; however, her special niche in Pop history is honored in this collection. She especially sets a mood for those who enjoy Julie London, and Dusty Springfield records on a cold lonely rainy night. This collection is a gem, a nostalgic link with the schizophrenic 60's that produced Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple, and Led Zepplin on one hand, and Claudine Longet on the other. There is no angst or anger in Claudine's honey-sweet, child-like voice; however, she will touch your emotions, and perhaps even bring a smile to your lips. You won't regret indulging on this CD even with its import price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs bring back memories of softness, beauty, and delight., February 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Claudine Longet - A & M Digitally Remastered Best (Audio CD)
It is wonderful to have these songs on CD. Claudine's sweet, melodic voice and soft, sexy sound mixed with French coquetry and the sometimes gentle, sometimes saucy songs are a great delight to hear again. I'm transported to a younger, more vibrant time. Dancing with them helps me find the energy Claudine generates.

Well it took me a while to remember who Claudine Longet is as I was very young and her music is hard to find today. She has that sweet voice you remember from childhood listening through the door at your parents cocktail parties, seeing her with then hubby Andy William's on his T.V show, or hearing her haunting childlike theme from 'Rosemary's Baby'. She sang in the 60's classic 'The Party', with Peter Sellers, and seemed to represent a certain French waif 60's look, a sweetness and style, unique to her. The standout tracks to me on this great release are 'Meditation', 'A Man and a Woman', a wonderful version of 'The look of Love', 'I love how you love me', 'Love is Blue', 'Everybody's Talkin' from Midnight Cowboy, 'Am I blue?' Let it be me',... I love them all...but the best...the la la la theme song from 'Rosemary's Baby' called 'Sleep safe and warm'. I have wanted that for years! Claudine Longet is simply mesmerizing, she has a way of effortlessly making famous songs her own with her unique interpretation. This is wonderful stuff, so forget your worn out vinyl, Claudine's best is finally on C.D. I can assure you this won't leave the stereo. Robert Rechter. AUSTRALIA 2002

This is a wonderful CD.

See review from June 9 with correct track listings. In case you're looking for "I Think It's Gonna Rain Today" played during the season finale of The Gilmore Girls - it is indeed on this CD and is beautiful, as is the rest of the CD.

Claudine's early A&M output is well-captured here, with early songs like "Meditation" and "Here There and Everywhere" showing her innocence off to great advantage. As times changed, so did Claudine, getting more playful("Happy Talk")and introspective(the gorgeous "It's Hard To Say Goodbye")as each track required it. Her hardest album to locate--"Run Wild, Run Free"--is barely touched upon, but there are two hard-to-find tracks("Sleep Safe & Warm" and "I Don't Intend To Spend Christmas Without You")to compensate.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Note in Pop History., August 9, 2007

This CD has been in my collection for a few years. It is an excellent selection of an okay singer from the 60's and 70's. She really repersents the time. To be honest I think some of the songs are perfect but others are just fair or better. I originally checked out Claudines music because of the song she sang in the Peter Sellers movie " The Party" and then reading about her history and the court trial got me hooked.

I am happy to have this cd in my collection but I cannot give this star the highest rating cause you really had to be there to appreciate it all.
