I liked this book, a lot. It's an extremely readable, pulp fiction delight. But I would be the first person to admit: the book carries a lot of negative baggage that may be impossible for the average reader to overcome, much less to want to undertake its reading. First off: the book's title "Claw Hammer" suggests grisly, distasteful, gratuitous violence. And second off: the book's front cover artwork does nothing to dispel this image (In fact, the artwork enhances/promotes violence.). But to be honest, the book does deal with unrelenting violence directed repeatedly toward a young innocent child who somehow, with the passage of time, the help of others, and a lot of luck, manages to survive adversity, and may even bloom. I found this book inspirational, not depressing, as some reviewers may suggest.
