5.0 out of 5 stars Hovind is right on and the real deal
I can't believe what I have read in the previous reviews. Dr. Hovind did NOT get his Doctorate from a degree mill! It is legitimate and he had to do the work for it. Anyone who checks this out for themself will prove me right. The reason people don't like him is because he makes evolution look foolish. Folks who say that evolution is untouchable to honest criticism...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sadly not a credible, scientific view of cryptozoology.
While "Claws Jaws and Dinosaurs" is an easily accessible introduction to cryptozoology, it is not very credible from a scientific point of view. It's written almost on a gradeschool level, with poor annotation. Personally, I believe in the Bible, but Kent Hovind loses all scientific credibility with his religiously zealous remarks. I can't believe what I have read in the previous reviews. Dr. Hovind did NOT get his Doctorate from a degree mill! It is legitimate and he had to do the work for it. Anyone who checks this out for themself will prove me right. The reason people don't like him is because he makes evolution look foolish. Folks who say that evolution is untouchable to honest criticism are dangerously narrow minded and subverted.

To say that one knows everything about every square inch of the earth requires absolute knowledge about it. This is pride, since no one has such absolute knowledge. Most of the people reading this review barely venture out of their own homes, not to mention their State! To blindly trust any scientist or anyone to the point that you take their word for it based on your esteem for them is just that: blind trust!

Check out this book by Dr. Hovind. You kids need another perspective!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lot's of good information., March 10, 2010

This review is from: Claws Jaws and Dinosaurs (Living Dinosaurs) (Mass Market Paperback)
While much of the information is not new, professor Hovind organizes it very effectively. It is noteworthy that the negative reviews are consistent in two ways: they never answer Hovind's evidence, and they attack his person, as if that would discredit his work. Moreover, I hear plenty of conclusory statements against his work without any rebuttable evidence offered. The fossilized human organs and the unfossilized dinosaur bones (such as the one studied by Mary Schweitzer of the T-Rex bone with fresh blood in it), the enormous amount of ancient artwork around the globe depicting dinosaurs and the recent reports of very reliable sources of living dinosaurs, as well as dragon stories such as Beowulf (clearly describing Grendel as a T-Rex), all attests to the error which is evolution. The attitude evinced by evolutionists is stubborn dogmatism (ironically, the very charge they make against Creationists). We see in our day a remarkable hypocrisy: while the story of Galileo is lauded by evolutionists as evidence of Christian dogmatism (albeit exaggerated to mythic proportions), the very same dogmatism is practiced with a vengence against any professor who dares to espouse Creationism. I'm sure Hovind's IRS troubles was implemented with this strategy in view (speaking rhetorically, will somebody please show me the law that says you need to fill out a 1040 form? Anybody hear of "unconstitutional?"). I'm also sure he didn't receive the benign treatment Charlie Rangel received with regard to his tax controversies .

He won't win any converts by calling readers to repentence in every chapter, either. A better, more scientific approach to cryptozoology can be found in "Mystery in Acambaro: Did Dinosaurs Survive Until Recently?" by David Hatcher Childress. And for those interested in REAL SCIENCE, the most AMAZING book on creationism (and cryptozoology) is "In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood" by Walter T. Brown. Both books are available from amazon.com.

2.0 out of 5 stars nice, but not more, January 21, 2002
This review is from: Claws Jaws and Dinosaurs (Living Dinosaurs) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book gives a small and nice introduction to the complex field of cryptozoology. It is well written and nicely illustrated. Obviously, it brings not new facts about the topic itself. Most things were copied by books of Heuvelmans, Mackal, Spaeth etc.

However, the minor things of the book are the pseudo-religious comments about the bible, the belief in God, and our sins and damnation in the foreword and at the end of each chapter. The real highlight was the statement of the authors that our world is not older than a few 1000's of years, declining every scientific proof about the true Earth's age. This medieval attitude of the authors ruins the nice rest of the book. What a pity...

1.0 out of 5 stars Shallow pseudoscience, November 27, 2005
This review is from: Claws Jaws and Dinosaurs (Living Dinosaurs) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you're looking for a thoroughly researched, well documented
work on possible "living dinosaurs" or other prehistoric creatures, this is not it. Sad to say, Hovind's approach is very unscholarly. Many of his stories and sensational claims have been disputed even by fellow creationists. For example, he touts an alleged "plesiosaur" carcass that was by all evidenec a decayed basking shark (see "Plesiosaur or Shark", http://paleo.cc/paluxy/plesios.htm). I hope that most readers (including young oones, whom the book evidently targets) have enough science background and analytical skills to spot the lack of substance and rigor in Hovind's assertions, and do not spread his unfounded claims to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cryptozoology book for all readers, February 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Claws Jaws and Dinosaurs (Living Dinosaurs) (Mass Market Paperback)
Whether you're a Christian or not, if you're interested in cryptozoology this book had some great stories about encounters with dinosaurs that I had never heard of before. I have read a lot of cryptozoology books and this book was way more interesting than all of them, even though it is a little short. I have heard Dr. Hovind's lectures on Creation, Evolution and Dinosaurs and they were superb. Although some of the other reviewers may not like him, I doubt they have heard him speak. He is charming and funny in his lectures and thuroughly spells out his opinions on the creation of the world and the age of the earth. You should check out his seminars, they will change the way you think about evolution if you believe in it. If you're a christian (like me) you should definately buy this book, and it's written for kids but adults can enjoy it to.

1.0 out of 5 stars A very unfortunate book, December 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Claws Jaws and Dinosaurs (Living Dinosaurs) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of the worst books I have read in some time. Hovind is a STRICT 6-day creationist, which I do not have a problem with in itself, but he tries to prove that the earth is only 6000 years old by attempting to convince us that dinasaurs are still alive and well (though very well hidden). This is absolutely rediculous for two reasons:

1. His proof is EXTREMELY lacking (one of his most credible dinasaurs is the Loch Ness Monster), and he fails to go into very much detail on any of the supposed creatures, which further takes from the small amount of credibility he had in the first place.

2. Even if he suceeded in showing that a few dinasaurs were still alive, this does not prove his 6-day creation view as he suspects it does. If he assumes that showing that a creature which Darwinistic evolutionists thought to be extinct was still alive, his entire book is irrelevant, for that has already been done with the Coelacanth. According to his own purpose, his book is unnecessary. Obviously, just showing that something which is supossed to be extinct is not extinct does not suddenly make all evolutionists decide that 6-day creationism is correct. Further, he undermines his own purpose by including things like Big-foot (a supossed ancestor of man), for by doing so he is validating the evolution of man which his entire book is set against!

This book is absolutely rediculous, and I cannot imagine that anyone could be convinced by the absurd agrument presented in this book, which has no credibility whatsoever. In short, don't waste your money. If you're a 6-day creationist, don't read this garbage, get something better like Morris' "The Genesis Flood" or something of the like. Books like this are what make creationists the laughingstock of the scientific world.

Also, if you are looking at this book because you are interested in cryptozoology, look elsewhere. Cryptozoology A-Z is much better, contains the same thing (minus creationism) with more detail.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, August 8, 2005
This review is from: Claws Jaws and Dinosaurs (Living Dinosaurs) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the funniest book I've ever read... how can people throw out all of their logic and reason and believe this garbage? Not to mention "Dr" Hovind purchased his degree through Patriot University, widely known as a diploma mill. Anyone that doubts that can check the accreditation of the school. I do feel that an accredited school should award him a real honorary doctorate in B.S. though!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a good book on Crypto-zoology for young adults, March 29, 2006

This review is from: Claws Jaws and Dinosaurs (Living Dinosaurs) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed this book very much. It is not for the serious student of mysterious animals but it's good for someone who knows very little about it. It's a good introduction. I have read the negative reviews of this book and I don't understand why they have a problem with this book. It's for young adults to teach them that life has many mysteries. I think the reviews are attacking Kent Hovind's person rather than taking the book at face valve. Some people don't even comment on the book just on Kent Hovind. That is unkind and unfair. This book is fun and is for young adults who are interested in possible living dinosaurs. The only negative points are that it is too short and could be better framed to reach people who know about the subject in great detail. Animals covered; Bigfoot, Loch Ness Monster, Mokele Mbembe, Kongamato, and the very interesting creature that washed up in California in 1924, Monterray Bay (this is the best proof that dinosaur like creatures exist today).
