I did not like it at all., December 10, 2010
This review is from: Claws of the Lynx (Kindle Edition)
I did not like this book. I'll start that off right now. I didn't like it, I had to force myslf tofinish it, and that's basically because I've managed to read longer and better written Buffy fanfic. Seriously. This was just terrible. I read this on Kindle PC because I don't have a Kindle yet, and that makes me sad. But come tax returns, I'm totally getting one. Thery're only $139.
Me, the Author, and the Book: This is the first book by this Johnston that I've read. I more than likely won't be picking up any of her others. She writes paranormal, and mysteries. But she's been known to dabble, as early as December 1995, in historical and contemporary romances with a mix of danger. She very well be a versatile writer, her style seems more closely related to the lightly cheesy but still fun romances of the 90's. Maybe she should have stuck with it. I can't make any assumptions on her other works, because I doubt that 15,000 words can give us a good scope of her plotting and story telling abilities. But I'm not going to risk it. This particular book is a spin-off of another Paranormal book of hers called 'Alhpa Wolf'.
The Book and the Genre: This is a paranormal romance spinoff about a shapeshifter who is part of a secret military operation that uses their unique ability to further the aims of the government. It's a reconsilation, old flame story with the predictible misunderstanding and break-up where no one wants to talk about what happened. It takes place in contemporary Washington D.C. and revolves around a mission to retreive sensitive information from a theiving journalist. I didn't really like any of the characters in this book and don't have it in me to find someting good to say about them.
What did I really think: This book was terrible. It was poorly researched with unbelieveble happenings and too many convient info dumps for my personal enjoyment. I had to basically force myself to finish it so that I could accomplish my mission as to eHarlequin's expectations on their Nocturne Bites series. I hope it isn't as low as this one.
Finishing Touches: Dont take my word on it, you may love this and the things that drive me bats may only bother me because I know exactly what's wrong. But I don't want to read a book where someone uses the wrong information and expects me to take it like a bad pill.
