Product Description

A close study of the rivalry between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at the French Open, The Clay Ran Red is the latest collection of tennis insight by the well-known author, journalist, and blogger, Peter Bodo. Federer and Nadal played their first match at Roland Garros in the semifinals of 2004, where Bodo—courtside and reporting on every meeting of the tennis titans in Paris—picks up the story. He weaves together his on-the-scene dispatches to create an illuminating narrative that covers every aspect of this great rivalry, from the underlying psychological issues, to tactics and the place of each man in tennis history, culminating with the final of 2009. Along the way, Bodo also introduces secondary characters and rivals, and gives a richer and deeper understanding of clay-court tennis taking into consideration the unique demands it makes on the players.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who better to put the Nadal/Federer rivalry (on clay) into perspective?, May 31, 2010
This review is from: The Clay Ran Red: Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros (Kindle Edition)
I've been a follower of Pete Bodo's Tennis World blog since its inception 5 years ago. One might even call me a PB Kool-Aid drinker, a term re-popularized by Pete himself to describe the veritable fanboys/girls that live and die with every Federer or Nadal point (depending on their flavor of choice). The great thing about the blog format is that it has provided Pete a platform in which to examine the Federal/Nadal rivalry from virtually every angle, on an almost daily basis (if he so chooses). Some of these analyses are just too good to be packed away in the e-archives, never to be read again. Hence the book, which does an excellent job of compiling Pete's best work (as it pertains to Federer/Nadal/terre battue), and "freshening it up" for the Kindle's paper-like display. After three decades in the industry, Pete's prose is still fresh and honest in its delivery. He is, by his own admission, an equal opportunity defender and offender. But if you take off your rose-colored glasses and look closer, you can easily spot Pete's intrinsic love for the game itself, and in particular his appreciation for this great rivalry--which, when the clay dust has settled, the last wedgie has been picked, and the deeply conditioned hair has found its final resting place, just may turn out to be the greatest of all time, on any surface.

I loved this and reading it during Wimbledon and just after the French Open was great.
