Provides comprehensive coverage of all aspects of clay seals, from the formation of deposits and an analysis of their composition and properties, to the physical relationships between these clay seals and the environments in which they are found. Looks at seven different types of clay seals from a number of sites, highlighting important properties and methods of analysis used to distinguish and classify clay seals.

The final part of the book deals with modelling the state and properties of clay seals occurring at various depths, showing variations in porosity and strength at different lithogenesis stages. Additionally, the authors consider the possibility of predicting screening properties of clay seals using computer programs.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seals from a Russian view, May 12, 2006
By
This review is from: Clay Seals of Oil and Gas Deposits (Hardcover)
Clay rich sediments are the most common type of sedimentary deposits. However the literature of clays is much less common. Therefore all books on this area are welcomed. Especially a book with a broad theme of clay seals of oil and gas deposit is really needed by engineers and geologists.

However this books fails to be a broad book for a reader interested in clay seals in general, but provides a good insight of the work conducted in Russia.

The references in the book lack a main part of the important references in this area despite the close to 300 references in the book. The nomenclature which are used are differ with common practise. Some of the figures have Russian text. The micrographs has not been labeled to common practice is it a backscatter SEM picture, ordinary SEM etc.

The last part of the book "modeling of the change in the clay seals properties in lithogenesis" is really not a book but a scientific paper of a method developed by the authors.

If you look for a general book about clay seals of oil and gas deposits you should probably look elsewhere. However it gives access to important research which are difficult to access when originally written in Russian.
