This is an excellent source for anyone wanting to learn to make clay whistles or ocarinas. It gives step by step instructions on constructing whistles. It also tells how to fabricate tools you will need but can't buy readymade. It has a troubleshooting section that identifies and then gives the solutions to fix common problems that are encountered by makers. I purchased this book after I'd learned how to make clay whistles. I wish I had had this information earlier, I would have been saved several years of muddling around.

I was very impressed by this book. I have other books with instructions on making clay whistles and ocarinas, but Janet Moniot's book is the only one I have seen so far with an extensive "problem solving" section, detailing possible problems, and some of the likely symptoms associated with them. For the novice just starting out making clay flutes and whistles, this alone is well worth the cost of the book. Her illustrations are clear and easy to understand, making this book a valuable resource for anyone seeking to produce "playable" clay crafts.

Easy and Fun,

I volunteer at my children's elementary school and these whistles are going to be incorporated into this year's projects. Janet explains the process of making clay whistles and occarinas so that we are able to teach the techniques to third graders. The video of these processes is also invaluable. If there is any confusion from the book (very litle)the video clarifies it and vice versa. The video doesn't show much about the "Sweet Potato" so you need the book for that. I find these instructions informative and interesting.

The shipping was prompt and the book seems clearly informative and covers a variety of aspects regarding the building of the whistles. I've not had time to try this yet, but from this information, it looks like it will be possible.C.
