About the Author

Roger Priddy’s passion for educating children through fun, informative and engaging books has led him to create some of publishing’s most enduring and successful non-fiction early learning books. Roger lives in London and has three children, who have been the inspiration behind many of his best publishing ideas.

More About the Author

Roger Priddy is the creator of over two hundred best selling books for young children including Wipe Clean ABC, First 100 Words, and Fuzzy Bee.

When he was at school he couldn't decide between being a patisserie chef or going to art college. On the advice of his father he chose art college and trained as an illustrator before becoming a designer at Usborne Publishing.

Roger's love for children's early learning has led him to create some of the most successful children's non-fiction books, first at Dorling Kindersley (My First Word Book, Incredible Cross Sections and My First Cook Book) before he set up Priddy Books with St. Martins Press in New York where several of his books have sold over a million copies each including My Big Animal Book and Happy Baby Words.

In total he has sold over 65 million books worldwide and his books have been translated into over 30 languages.

He says "It is always rewarding to see a child enjoying and learning something from one of our books, especially the babies when you think it could be the first book they have ever seen.

I am very lucky to have a career where you get to think up fun ways to teach a kid how to write their letters and learn their first words whilst finding out about Dinosaurs at the same time!"

Roger lives with his wife Zena in London and Cork, Ireland (when it's not raining, which isn't very often!) They have four children Sam, Rose, Alannah and Gabriel (and a dog called Wallace) who have given him most of his best ideas for his books. He still loves baking bread and cakes!

My two year old daughter loves the activities in this book. Of course, she is still too young to work on the activities herself, so I either sit down with her or supervise. There are 4 basic themes, i.e. letters, animals, time & numbers. The letters segment teaches kids how to trace and write the letters out, with each letter represented, and words for each letter [e.g. b for ball etc]. The colors are bright & the illustrations/pictures are vivid and fun to look at. The animals segment is really fun as kids have the options of tracing out animal shapes, counting them, identifying, matching, drawing, connect the dots etc. The time segment provides a variety of fun activities to teach/tell time & similarly for the numbers segment. What makes this a worthwhile buy is the variety of activities contained within it...there are so many fun ways to keep a child meaningfully oocupied, and the best part is that he/she will learn whilst having fun at the same time!

While I have only had this book for a day, so far I'm surprisingly impressed with it. The book itself is 11" high x 8 1/2" wide x 7/16" thick with a spiral binding that allows the book to be completely opened. The pages themselves are all heavy-weight and coated (including the insides of the front and back covers which are each labeled as a "Practice Page") for dry-erase marker use. The book I received came with one slightly thicker than usual black dry-erase marker tucked into the spiral binding itself and is recommended for ages 3 and up.

The book itself is broken into the following sections:
1) Letters: Goes through the entire alphabet from "a" to "z" with a half a page devoted to each. It starts off with a 1/2" example of how to write the capital version of the letter, followed by two dotted representations for a child to practice with, and ending with enough room for the child to practice approximately three more free-hand. The book then has the same for the corresponding small version of the letter. The remainder of the 1/2 page per letter has either two or three colorful pictures of something that has the letter in it (once again with dotted representations of the particular letter for the child to practice with) as well as the occasional "game" (such as "circle each letter b"). I like that the examples used don't always start with the letter being covered ("O" uses owl, orange, and spoon).

2) Animals: Has appealing pictures of various animals with dotted "drawings" for the child to connect to help them practice co-ordination.

I purchased this book to keep my 3 1/2 yr old occupied on a cross-country flight. The book is great and served its purpose, and even my 1 yr old loved looking at the pictures. However, my 3 yr old got a few marker stains on her shirt and they won't come out. The product could be improved if washable markers were provided.

This activity is full of fun and creative ways for my children to learn the alphabet, numbers, counting, and time. I cannot say enough about it. I purchased only one and wish I would have bought two. Both my 3 year old and 5 year old will sit down for hours with this book!

My daughter turned three last year. She is super active. but with this book, she has so much fun in sitting. It has all wonderful writing part, including numbers, alphabets, animals and clock. And it has free practice board. I want to recommand this for many preschool and pre-kinder kids.

My daughter is almost 3 1/2. She loves workbooks and flashcards (a bit odd I agree....).
I think we'll get a lot of use out of this. She's already used it a dozen times and she loved it.
She's just tracing the animals and shapes now and can do a few letters. My only concern is coming up with some games to make the letters more fun... just tracing letters alone won't hold her attention for more than a few letters.

One of my son's two most favorite books. He loves all the activites and since toodlers love repitition, he loves doing these activites over and over again. His ability to write numbers and letters, and his ability to read and spell simple words has improved so much. People cannot belive how advanced he is for a 2 yr-old.
