4.0 out of 5 stars Mattress cover that fits.
This mattress cover was purchased to replace an ill fitting cover. This one not only fits, it is easier to make the bed with it than with just the mattress.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good fabric, bad execution
The Good: The fabric is definitely waterproof and does seem to control the allergens. The pillow protector is much better than the mattress protector because there are no seam issues or oversize issues with the pillow protector.
The Bad: The Queen size mattress encasement has a seam running across the width of the bed! That seam is uncomfortable to my hip lying on it...

This review is from: CleanRest Allergen Barrier Queen Mattress Cover (Kitchen)
The Good: The fabric is definitely waterproof and does seem to control the allergens. The pillow protector is much better than the mattress protector because there are no seam issues or oversize issues with the pillow protector.
The Bad: The Queen size mattress encasement has a seam running across the width of the bed! That seam is uncomfortable to my hip lying on it after a period of time, and I am a normal to skinny size person. My cover developed a rip in this mid-cover seam area after only a couple months. Clean Rest asked me to send it back to them before I can get another one under the warranty. So now I have to buy something else for the time I'll be out a cover. Also, we have a 9" deep mattress. The Queen size fits up to 15" deep, and they do not have another product for a shallower mattresss. Since the fabric is a silky texture, the extra fabric wrinkles up underneath you eventually, even if you initially tucked it under the mattress. It's made in China.
Update: I sent the encasement back to Clean Rest, and after some back and forth with customer service they finally honored their lifetime guarantee for a refund of money as was explicitly stated on the package.
The replacement mattress encasement that I bought from National Allergy is MUCH BETTER and made in USA.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little 'crunchy' and too big even for my supersize mattress, October 17, 2007

I have a pretty thick California King mattress and I was looking for a dust mite cover when I read about CleanRest in Business Week. Seems like they had a good product and that it had the feel of normal sheets and wasn't crunchy.

Well it is a little 'crunchy' and you can definitely tell that the cover is there especially when you roll around or move on the mattress. It's also a little big and it's hard to fold the extra material under the mattress like the instructions say so we sometimes end up with big air pockets that puff out or folds in the cover that are annoying.

Apart from that it seems like a well built product and it has a good zipper. Seems expensive for what you get.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not comfortable, March 10, 2008
It seems ok for asthma or allergy, but this barrier is very, very uncomfortable.
It has no smell, but it is hot, so hot, and has an unpleasant feeling .
Not comfortable.

Update:
I have been using it for a couple of months:

PROS:
1) it is effective for allergy, and with time it gets better.
2) it has no smell at all ( no plastic, or antibacterial odor)

CONS:
1) it makes the bed hot, a torture in summer, ok in cold weather
2) has a "gripping effect" maybe so it doesn't slide over the mattress, but you won't either, when you turn around at night, you are sort of stuck, very uncomfortable to me.
3) there are few size options, so you have to tuck the surplus under the mattress

Conclusion:
For allergy (and/or asthma) it does help a lot, but I had to cover it with a mattress pad, to make it comfortable, otherwise I could not sleep.
For this expensive price, it should already come with a fresh and cozy topping, maybe 100 % allergy free cotton.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor breathability..., February 21, 2008
This review is from: CleanRest Allergen Barrier Queen Mattress Cover (Kitchen)
I was very disappointed on this item. We recently bought a Tempur-pedic mattress and I wanted to protect it from mite and other allergy-causing stuff by using this CleanRest bed encasing. It probably is an effective protection for allergy sufferers but it just does NOT have enough breathability that my husband and I got too sweaty and couldn't sleep. (we are in Seattle, WA in our motorhome and it's not hot here at all) We tried for 3 nights and gave up. We took it off and now we are comfortable sleeping again. The worst thing is that you can't return this item once you take out of the plastic case. What a waste of money! I might as well put it on the box spring or something...

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality And Too Big, July 17, 2009

The very flimsy and poor quality zipper broke the first time that I unzipped it to put the cover on the mattress. The zipper handle broke into 3 pieces. Decided to try to use it anyway and the cover ripped into two when pulling it onto the mattress. It was also too large for even my oversized mattress. Sloppy. Avoid this product and line completely!

1.0 out of 5 stars zipper broke immediately, October 21, 2008
By

The zipper broke almost immediately -- after I had wrapped the 90lb mattress in the cover, and before I'd even started zipping it up! The tiny little piece on the side cracked. I took a careful look at the zipper -- the whole zipper was quite tiny and brittle -- no surprise it would crack.

For a $120 product, you would hope they could (and should!) spend 5 cents on a better zipper! I am not looking forward to lifting the mattress out and returning the item to the local store I bought it at, but it's useless with a broken zipper.

To those who complain of warmth: you don't actually sleep directly on the barrier, do you? You need to have something (a sheet, for example) on top of it.
