5.0 out of 5 stars So good I gave them as gifts!
I ordered SIX of these cookbook holders and gave 5 to other family members as gifts.

Reasons I enthusiastically recommend this product:
These holders are relatively inexpensive.
They are stable enough to hold a heavy book.
They protect a cookbook from random splatters--something I needed for my favorite new bride's cookbook, which now looks...

I bought this book holder just the other day and so far am not especially pleased with it. On the positive side, it seems very stable and does hold a book while protecting it from splatter. Also, it is able to hold single printed pages in it, as they just stick to the inside of the acryllic surface, I guess due to static electricity. The negatives, however, are a little more significant. The way that the book holder clamps the book from behind makes it difficult to get books in and out of it. If they are very skinny you can just pop them in, but if they are at all wider than the narrow opening you have to prop it open with one hand while using the other hand to try to squeeze the book in. Also, and this may be a bit hard to describe well, the rear wing of the book holder that clamps against the books is folded over on top so that books get a smooth entry into the book holder. But it has a real rough edge underneath the fold, and when you try to pull a hardcover book back out it really scrapes it up. No matter what technique I try, I can't seem to get a hardcover book out of the book holder without chewing up the binding a bit. I've already gone back to propping my hardcover books up against a phone book to read them.

I ordered SIX of these cookbook holders and gave 5 to other family members as gifts.

Reasons I enthusiastically recommend this product:
These holders are relatively inexpensive.
They are stable enough to hold a heavy book.
They protect a cookbook from random splatters--something I needed for my favorite new bride's cookbook, which now looks like it's been through the food wars!

This holder has other uses:
It holds a newspaper or floppy magazine so I can read while I eat.
It hold materials I need to view at the computer.
It holds notes or lists which need to be dealt with soon--they are clearly visible.

One suggestion: When sending this as a gift, enclose a note of explanation or the recipient will be puzzled. ("What is this thing?") It arrives shrink wrapped with no label.

4.0 out of 5 stars not great for large spiral bound, good otherwise, April 16, 2006

I've found that while this works perfectly fine for most of my books, it is not easy to fit the large spiral bound books into it.
I have 3 Better Homes cookbooks that have 1 1/2 inch metal recloseable spirals that will not fit with this product. It is nice for the others though.

An absolutely wonderful product: a "U" shaped plastic about 18" long that holds a cookbook open to the relevant pages. Keeps the cookbook open and flat, making it easy to read ingredients!

2.0 out of 5 stars not good for bindings, December 17, 2007
This review is from: Clear Acrylic Plastic Cookbook Holders (Kitchen)
I bought this clear cookbook holder to replace a similar one that broke after years of daily use. This new one really squashes down the pages and it is very difficult to use for thicker cookbooks. I'm worried that it will eventually lead to unnecessary wear and tear on the bindings.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect bead/craft instructional magazine holder!!!!!, September 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Clear Acrylic Plastic Cookbook Holders (Kitchen)
I am a beader (jewelry maker) and I was looking for a MAGAZINE holder for my pattern magazines. This is the perfect one. I spent a lot of time reading reviews on "book holders" which doesn't suit my purpose, as the gap for the book is too wide and won't hold a magazine smashed flat like I need it to read a detailed pattern. Also, if the width of the holder itself is too small, the magazine pages will "flop" behind it so you can't see both pages spread out. UUUGGHH!!!
This one alleviates all problems! It's size is perfect, there is only about 2" on the sides and across the top that aren't covered by the acrylic so no flopping! The angle is perfect, almost upright, (about 20 degrees) so no glare from light above you. I was worried about that because I work up close with an Ott light and overhead lighting. It is built with one solid sheet of acrylic bent to the right angles (pardon the pun) and where you put the magazine is flexible so it would accommodate a skinny magazine like People or a 150 page hardback craft pattern book. Anything more thick than that, I would go with something else.
At this point, price was no object because I had spent so much time looking that I really couldn't have cared less how much it was! I am usually looking for something specific on Amazon so I'm used to paying out the nose for whatever it is. I was pleasantly surprised by the price. My only gripe is that they should advertise this as a MAGAZINE holder, maybe for craft people? Then I wouldn't have spent half the day reading about BOOK holders! I realize that there is a very specialized market for this but they would have thousands of very happy beader/craft people if they would just advertise it that way!
Happy (-ier) Beading,
Noelle

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, July 9, 2010

I was concerned buyihng this item on reading some of the reviews based on the binding stripping of cookbooks. However, I love this product and am going to order more of them. I found a solution for the binding stripping situation. I just put a piece of paper or a mini envelope on the binding of the book before I slide it into the holder. To pull it out, I just slightly open the part the clamps onto the book. It's easy, lightweight and does what it should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, January 4, 2009
This review is from: Clear Acrylic Plastic Cookbook Holders (Kitchen)
I received this item as a wedding gift. As another poster noted, there was no labeling on it, which might be it's only fault. I LOVE this product. It's flexible enough so I can stick in a hard cover book, spiral, anything has worked so far. As I tend to make a huge mess when I cook, especially sauces, this keeps the whole book protected and for paperbacks, keeps it open so I'm not constantly losing my place because the book closes.

Other posters mentioned other things this is good for and I highly recommend too! It works great for papers you need to type on the computer.

I love that it's clear because it blends into our counter making it look less cluttered.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Ideas, November 4, 2007
This review is from: Clear Acrylic Plastic Cookbook Holders (Kitchen)
I Love this product. It allows me to have my cookbook close without getting it dirty and also if it does get splattered the cookbook cover is easy to wipe down when you are finished. I would recommend this for great product but also reasonable price which is quite important!!!
